I recently had the clutch cylinder replaced (under dash through the firewall) and now I noticed that although my clutch works fine, while releasing it's nice and smooth up until the last 2 inches (after engaged) where it makes a spring back noise.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi All, I had a quick question about the sound of your clutch pedal when fully released. I recently had the clutch cylinder replaced (under dash through the firewall) and now I noticed that although my clutch works fine, while releasing it's nice and smooth up until the last 2 inches (after engaged) where it makes a spring back noise. It's hard to describe. Maybe it is because the spring is tight and new, but when you release the clutch and it pops upwards the last few inches, you hear a little clunk noise; not from the clutch but from the pedal hitting the pedal stop. I was wondering if someone could go into there garage and listen to their clutch pedal? I honestly don't remember if my car did that prior to the repair. Please note that the engine doesn't need to be running. Thanks Have a nice Holiday.

POST 2Original post

Try a shot of WD-40 where the spring connects at the ends, then work the pedal a few times. Do again if still makes a noise

POST 3Original post

ISST - I have a similiar issue. Dealer replaced the clutch slave cylinder (I did not have any problems - was part of a recall) and after they changed it I noticed the exact same thing. The last inch or two of travel feels like the clutch passes over some type of detent - although there is no noise. I thought it just needed adjustment but have not done anything about it. Feels somewhat like the cylinder travel bottoms about two inches from where the pedal stops and the spring pulls the pedal to the stop. I would also be curious as to the cause.

POST 4Original post

isst, shellshocked... It is possible there is still air in the system and you may need to bleed the the system again. They are not the easiest systems to bleed. If air is still in the line the hyd. pressure will not return the pedal fully. What you may hear is the helper spring pulling it back fully. It will also give the pedal a very vague feeling at the top. I would suggest having the repair shop recheck it.

POST 5Original post

Mine does the same thing (feeling but not the sound) and conclusion of dealer is all is normal as said below. What you may hear is the helper spring pulling it back fully.
