Suspected cause

Actually, if it was me, I'd look into replacing the diode pack because that's likely the problem, but as you have a warranty go for the genuine item.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I may need a new alternator to cure my battery drain but which is the best one to go for? Should I go OPC, if so does anyone know the price? Is a regular Bosch the same as a Porsche one? Should I go new or recon? I can't find a price for a new one, only remaufactured from Design 911 or Porscheshop for around £300 for a Lucas or a Bosch. I have a warranty on the car so they should pay for the cheaper one but is it worth me making up the difference to a more pricey one?

POST 2Original post

I had mine done in Feb at an OPC - about £400 all in. Same price as I was quoted by various independents. Cheers

POST 3Original post

Porsche do an exchange unit, and I'd go for one of those if I were you. Actually, if it was me, I'd look into replacing the diode pack because that's likely the problem, but as you have a warranty go for the genuine item.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, I would like to go genuine obviously and it sounds like the OPC is fairly competitive. I just hope it does fix the problem!
