Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thinking about tinting the windows, both drop glasses, 1/4's and the rear. Really interested to hear everyones opinion So you can picture the car, here is a brief description: The car is Swarz Black metalic with Black leathers, Silver 18" Carreras and Red calipers (which I am thinking of changing to Yellow or even Lime Green!) Thanks for your input. :thumb: Lloyd

POST 2Original post

You've been looking at the picture at the top of the page

POST 3Original post

Having spent the last week or so lusting after the black 997 turbo at the top of this page, I say most definitely go as black as your hat! 8)

POST 4Original post

It's a fantastic looking car. A little bit of 'Photo Shop'going on there :?:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yep, the sexy Black 997 at the top is lush I saw a Black 996TT in Birmingham central with total Black-outs, 5% of me said chav but then the other 95% realised I was just in pure envy and actually it looked classy and sophisticated. I think it works best on Black cars though.

POST 6Original post

The rules on how much tinting you can apply to windscreen and front windows are rightly very strict. Traffic cars now do carry light meters and if an envious Mr Plod is looking for some way to 'cut that Porsche boy down to size' then dark tinting is a great excuse to give him. Speaking as a biker as well as a driver I'm glad to see the laws being enforced.

POST 7Original post

993 owners have Rose tints :floor: (I'll get my coat........)

POST 9Original post

A bit of research: The maximum you can tint windscreen and front side window is such to allow 70% of available light through (30% tints) It's not just traffic cars now, the meters are being issued to the VOSA plod-wanabes as well. For between 30% and 45% of light transmission the vehicle is assumed to be unfit for use but not to pose an immediate danger. A delayed prohibition is issued and the owner has up to ten days from the date of issue to remove the tint. At less than 30% the legal position is that driving the vehicle would involve a risk of injury, and the vehicle cannot be moved under its own power from the issuing of the prohibition notice until the tint has been removed. Worth the risk?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hence I wrote 'dark as legally possible' I will stay within the law, not only the getting caught it would be the insurance get-out that puts me off going 31%+ thanks for the comments though I have had the tint guy show me what the maximum tint would look like on my car. Because I have all Black interior, seats, dash, carpet & even the headliner is the Black suede it looks very dark from the outside, much like the header 997 photo but from the inside it looked just slightly tinted.

POST 11Original post

n.p. Tell you what I really hate though, and that's saloons with 30% fronts and much darker tints at the rear. If they wanted a van they should just have bought one.

POST 12Original post

I would go for as dark as legally possible. 'Limo black' would be best but I know the feds up in my neck of the woods are really cracking down on illegal tinting. Probably the same nationwide.

POST 13Original post

Do 996 windows carry any tint at all as standard?

POST 14Original post

YES but then I would because my car came with the windows already tinted

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, mine has a very slight hint of Green, I believe that was standard, I wouldn't think Porsche would do a plain option for 996.
