History - had new coolant expansion tank fitted last year with 6 new coil packs / plugs.

Use say 5w40 shell ultra or similar may cure it

Sometimes an oil change using say 5w40 Shell Ultra or similar may cure it but if not then tappets may require replacing

Hello Everybody,
I'm after a bit of technical advise from you guys its a 1999 C2 Tip Cab.
The car isn't used much (3000 per year) and has been stood (outside) for about 8 weeks.
Alarm was sounding one night so next morning put the charger on it overnight (normally means batterys nearly dead)
Next day tried to start it revs rose up normally but when the revs normally drop after a second they dropped all the way and it stalled. (all sounded okay normal pea in can sound)
Tried again and same problem - so started it with a little throttle so the revs didn't drop - okay but really lumpy (missfiring) when i eased of throttle revs drop and died again.
Tried again and after 1 min of holding it at approx 1000rpm it would idle okay @ 600rpm ish. Was still lumpy but this cleared after another minute.
There were no warning lights on so went round the block seemed fine so turned it off and back on all good. Went for a 30min drive to try and clear the cobwebs out / thought it might be damp of 8week sat in the rain, no missfires / warning lights.
Next day the same problem, so decided to write this post......after searching
History - had new coolant expansion tank fitted last year with 6 new coil packs / plugs. Expansion tank was leaking coolant down onto cracked coilpack causing missfire.
I Had to ask the OPC to do this after 2 visits without them managing to find a problem, found common problems on this forum and put 2 & 2 together.
After searching the forum havn't found any identical problems but thinking maybe the MAF sensor, or temperature sensor.
Still no warning lights.
Any input would be kindly received, thanks in advance.
I think the key things here are the fact it is ok when warm plus it is a garage queen.
Temprature related faults rule out quite a lot of things. MAFS for instance it wouldn't matter what temprature, it would play up all the time.
I lean towards changing the EMTS (engine management temp sensor) located in the thermostat housing first.
If no luck then I would guess it could be bucket tappet lifters sticking when cold causing minor compression issues hence the missfires but as it warms the oil thins and they spring into life. Sometimes an oil change using say 5w40 Shell Ultra or similar may cure it but if not then tappets may require replacing
