Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

The other system retains the normal IMS bearing setup - albeit with the seal removed - and replaces the stock bearing flange with an oil fed system.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am doing research on the IMS update kit for a 2004 996 Porsche my friend just bought. I was not aware that there are multiple choices out there from stock, to slightly beefier bearing, to custom oil-fed bearing system.
What do most people go for?
And the overall procedure is?
1. Drop the gear box (it is a Tip in this case)
2. Lock the cams in place
3. Access the cover plate
4. Remove the bearing with special tool
5. Install new one
6. Replace cover plate
7. Undo cam locks
8. Check timing
9. Install gear box.
There are two variety of oil fed bearings as well.
The one from LN is a plain bearing - which requires a fairly significant teardown I believe.
The other system retains the normal IMS bearing setup - albeit with the seal removed - and replaces the stock bearing flange with an oil fed system. It looked pretty slick to me.

Thanks for the recommendations. In this case, I have time to prepare. As for gambling with installing it myself, how else am I going to have fun if i just send it off to someone else? I have pulled many Ferrari and Porsche engines in the last 20 years, this is just a transmission out job.
