I have noticed this for a second time so i decided to ask. I tried a quick search but found nothing. the first time i heard it, i didn't want to think much of it, but now its the second time.
Just after starting the car. . . and engaging first gear normally. . .i give it a little more throttle and it sounds like some chains rattling. i don't loose any power and it stops after a very short period of time ( about 1 or 2 seconds) so i don't think its the clutch. it does not happen that often. . .about as often as when the car doesn't want to start (about 3 times in 1.5 years).
Its got about 10k miles. very strange. Its already had an oil change. . .and i take care of it well and track it about 5 times a year.
My dealers have told me before they cant diagnose it if it does not happen when they can see it and that problems, if they are problems only get worse. What do you guys think. take it in and have them send me back saying they could replicate it? Wait till it gets worse?
PS. the other quirk the car has is the passenger window. sometimes it gets stuck on the automatic close. it does this apparently because it thinks there may be something blocking it. I've already had it serviced for this and the dealer told me there is no magic reset I've read on the forums and that it can be a number of issues. they replaced the door seal and it still gets stuck sometimes. anyone else have this issue and had it fixed?
I may have experienced the same noise once. For me, it sounded more like an exhaust pipe dragging on the ground. It happened after I had been driving for more than an hour. The low coolant level warning chimed, and I pulled over. Then as I parked the car using 1st and reverse gear, I heard the sound. It was gone when I restarted the car. The car is an 06 CS with very low miles. (To complete the story, the coolant system problem was caused by a leaky hose at the left front radiator, similar to what others have reported here.) Anyway, I can't answer your question, but I'll be following this topic to see if someone can.
Having had earlier Porsches, any "sounds like chain rattle" occurrence is scary. The older engines had timing chain tension ramp issues. I don't know what kind of alien technology lives within the 3.4 engine, but I would query the dealer, as to whether driving it with that sort of noise is acceptable.
I have a rattle/tick/tickle kind of sound generated by low/moderate throttle at low rpm's. More noticeable in 2nd & 3rd. Dealer diagnosed it as exhaust rattle, put in some fix. Was somewhat gone for a year, now it's back. I'm pretty sure the my sound is harmless.
thanks for the reply's.
anyone have a problem with there windows?
