Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I just bought an 06 CS with 31k mi. It turns out my symphony of rattles is more like a string quintet. It didn't bother me much at first, but as the days wore on, it got more and more and more and more and more and more annoying (you probably know what I mean). Anyway, I took it to the local dealership and they said it was the third brake light, which they replaced under warranty. That was the worst offender, but there were more. I tried the trunk clunk surgery and it helped the clunk, but not the rattle. A lot of guess work later, I isolated another huge offender... the piece of plastic covering the right rear strut tower was rubbing on the panel that comes down at an angle under the C pillar. (Is it called a C pillar in a coupe?) I was able to silence that one with a piece of velcro (soft side) wedged in between the two pieces of plastic. I think those two were the worst offenders, because the remaining three are really nothing of consequence in comparison. They are much quieter and less frequent. The first is a buzzing that sounds like it's coming from inside the dash just behind the passenger airbag. The second sounds like an exhaust heat shield or something in the engine bay that only rattles under engine braking. The third is much much less eventful and sounds like it's coming from directly next to my left ear. One by one, I will find them all!!!!! That is all.

POST 2Original post

You might want to check the interior light between the sun visors for the buzzing sound The one behind your ear may be coming from the black piece that separates the front an rear windows. It can be tightened by removing the plastic cap that the seat belt threads through. Inside I believe is a 12 of 13mm nut that may be loose. Do not over tighten, it can shear the bolt. I'm going to try your Velcro trick and see if it helps with an annoying rattle I have it that area.

POST 3Original post

I feel like I'm making one step forward and two steps backwards. I fix rattles only to get new ones. Plus, the engine noise is so loud in the cabin it's giving me a headache. My 2002 Boxster rattled too. Does anyone know if the 987 Boxster rattles this much... or the 911? I simply love Porsche looks and performance, but this amount of noise in a car of this price is simply unacceptable!!!

POST 4Original post

Maybe this isn't for you? I find the nuanced feedback of engine noise useful.

POST 5Original post

The cold weather begins, and so do the posts complaining of interior noises. It is surprising, considering that Germany is a rather cold place in the winter, but Porsches do not chill well. Are you still running summer tires? As they harden up in the cold the harmonics they create cause the worst source of rattles and noises in the similarly hardened plastics and rubbers of the interior.

POST 6Original post

I just had a local stereo shop put 30 sq feet of dynomat into the trunk and hatch area. I don't hear anything now except on the worst bumps and then only a very very faint squeak. But there is this other rattle like sound that appears to be coming from the engine bay and is tied to throttle position. It sounds almost like a heat shield. Has anyone had a similar sound?

POST 7Original post

Ahhh, winter's chill. Tomorrow's high will be the lowest for the week.....a bone chilling 67 degrees. Florida is flat, but it does have its compensations. Happy New Year everyone!
