I just replaced the driver side front turn signal bulb for the third time in about a year. The last two bulbs have been Sylvania 7507 that I bought from a chain auto parts store. I don't remember what the first bulb was, but it didn't last more than a week. The first 2507 lasted about a year.
I'm used to changing any individual light bulb on my car no more than twice a decade so I found this odd.
Anyone have any idea of the cause of the problem? Am I using the wrong bulb (I searched the 'net for quite a while before I bought the bulbs I used) and need to order some super duper specially designed turn signal bulb for the Cayman?
The 7507 is the part number that RMEuropean.com sells as a replacement bulb so I figured I was using the correct one. I did a search on Suncoast and it lists the replacement turn signal bulb as part number
90063102190.
Or is this just one of those Cayman electrical issues, like the 'Check Engine' light that comes on sporadically?
I tried to do a search here but the search engine was broken; I did a google advanced search of this website but nothing came up.
Thanks in advance.
In addition to double checking to see if it's the right bulb number, also double check the watt rating. I've had similar problems in the past where the bulb model number was correct BUT it apparently came in 4 watt and 5 watt variations. The Porsche favored the correct watt, don't recall which now. In fact the other variation would work but wouldn't turn off the dash warning regarding the bulb being out. Also check and clean the socket. Perhaps there's crud in there for some reason. Other than that I've got nuttin. Good luck.
Thanks; if it burns out again, I'll just drive across town to the Porsche dealer and buy a bulb from them. And when I change it out, I'll clean the socket. At least if I buy the bulb from the dealer, I will know it's the correct watt rating.
I was told by my Porsche mechanic that my 'check engine' light is due to a known problem where (IIRC) there's enough of an electrical output variation - I think due to a low battery charge - to cause the 'check engine' light to come on occasionally. I found that after I started using a battery tender, and now use the car as a daily driver, I hardly ever have a 'check engine' light.
A bad or weak battery causes all kinds of weird lights and problems. And I mean all kinds. I keep mine on a battery tender all the time, except when I'm driving it of course. Pull into the garage......plug it in. It's a regular routine now and haven't had battery problems in a very long time. These cars are infamous for running down batteries when not used regularly.
