Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi folks, just ready to drop my gear box and refurbish brake pipes etc. thought this would be good time to replace seal on ims cover as i do have a small weep, can anyone tell me what to look for when im in there, and what seal is best,i have no intention or had no intention of removing the brg if all looks good. just for interest i have added up how long it took me to remove ONE bolt from bell house six and half hours, over three evenings, thats with a lift. 2004 carrera just coming up on 80000 miles, drives superb thanks for reading, really enjoy forum :bye:

POST 2Original post

Box out , flywheel off and you have x2 seals .. the crank seal ( RMS ) and the IMS seal .. that's the bottom one .. You basically look to see which one is leaking .. it's pretty obvious to be fair . To replace the RMS then there is a special tool to fit it .. no idea if it can be done without as i use the tool . To change the IMS seal then you have to lock the crank , lock B1 cam shafts , drop the tensioners then remove the seal which is basically a metal cover with 3 bolts and a rubber seal on it . X2 small pry bars are needed to remove it . DO NOT just try and pull it out without doing the above or you will be in a world of pain . 996 workshop manual is in the faq section . Read the manual or i can give more detailed instructions if needed .

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also clutch, fly, RMS, flipped seal on IMS bearing, brake pipe etc etc On my back on axle stands on my drive....in the snow. Its not too difficult just needs some perseverance....

POST 5Original post

If it takes you that long to get it back you would be better to drop the engine and fit them together. I'm sure I dropped then engine and gearbox in about 3 hours. MC

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
