I assume is something mechanical in the mechanism rather than an electrical fault and as it is intermittent I presume is something that needs lubricating rather than something that has broken?

I then insert key into ignition and use the central locking button on the console to first "lock" teh car and then unlock the car which seems to work to unlock the doors properly.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I have a weird (I think) problem. Both my remote fobs work to lock the car. When I unlock the car with the fob the lights flash as normal and I can hear the clunk of the locks as if it is unlocking however when I open the door it is still locked. The only way to get into the car is to hold the key to the right in the door which winds both windows down. I then insert key into ignition and use the central locking button on the console to first "lock" teh car and then unlock the car which seems to work to unlock the doors properly. Started yesterday. Same today with both fobs however for a couple of attempts the fob worked as usual but now back to as above. Anyone have any ideas? Many thanks in advance. Kind regards, Miles

POST 2Original post

Do both doors not unlock or is it only the drivers side ?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Thanks for the reply. It is just the driver's side. I assume is something mechanical in the mechanism rather than an electrical fault and as it is intermittent I presume is something that needs lubricating rather than something that has broken? In fact, if I give the area above the door handle a good hard bang with my hand it works! Probably not a longterm solution though... I guess my next step is to take door card off and have a look and spray some wd40 around? Thanks again, Miles

POST 4Original post

Door lock is the most obvious problem followed by a wiring fault .. for me i would have a voltmeter on the motor wires and make sure i had 12 volts on the motor on unlock . if ok then i would replace or swop out the door lock to prove it .. Strange that the unlock button works but the fob doesn't .. makes me think of a wiring issue .. need to study some wiring diagrams i think .
