I used the small trim tool from the kit and put it between the strut tower covers and rear window and trim.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Guys, gals, I'm going crazy here trying to debug this issue. I have a sound that is exactly the sound you'd expect if you put 2 washers or quarters into a Dixie cup and shook it back and forth. The running joke in my family is that there is a guy hiding in the trunk shaking a cup at me for disturbing him with rough roads/bumps. The sound occurs every time I hit even a tiny bump; seems to be emitting from the right rear corner near the suspension strut. I've searched all over for the past 6 months and haven't found a solution. Looks like the 981 has a similar issue, well described by this thread: http://www.planet-9.com/981-cayman-...m/981-cayman-and-boxster-problems-and-complaints/222385-cayman-cabin-noise.html Borrowing words from another Cayman addict: "I hear this noise in the cabin that sounds like a loose washer or two coins hitting one another. An example of the noise would be if you had two coins in your hand and started moving your hand back and forth while the coins slid across one another." . The video linked below got me excited, but turned out not to be it once I removed the hatch struts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmkeC1ITqc8 I also found a guy with aftermarket dampers in his 996 his similar issue, shown in link below, but my struts are OEM with 54k miles! https://********.com/forums/996-turbo-forum/358576-pss9-rattle-in-rear-upper-mount-solved.html Please help. I am driving 5 hrs to a PCA club event in Oregon next weekend and would love to not have the stowaway. Thanks for any help!

POST 2Original post

Come on guys, 300+ views and no ideas? I had my wife ride in the trunk with some of the interior panels removed and she said she was 99% sure it is coming from the suspension strut. Any thoughts on loose metal that can develop in that mounting? Thanks

POST 3Original post

Had some trunk rattles that seemed to get worse when the weather is cold. Sliced up some foam, like padding from shipping electronics, and slid it between some of the trim pieces. I used the small trim tool from the kit and put it between the strut tower covers and rear window and trim. This reduced the noise significantly. Search trunk rattles and you will find lots of ideas.

POST 4Original post

I had a similar rattle and ultimately found a bolt lying loose in the hatch frame! With the hatch open, I could pound on one corner with my fist and hear it (as well as when driving). To locate it, I bought a usb fiber camera for my cell phone, removed the hatch lining, and poked the camera through one of the openings in the hatch frame. Once located, I stuck a magnet on a wire and retrieved it. I always wondered if an assembly worker had dropped it in there on purpose. Bern

POST 5Original post

I had a similar problem in my 2015 CGTS. Turns out it was the same issue that plagued the long term Car & Driver Cayman . I quote: At 29,637 miles we returned to the dealership to investigate a rattling noise we began to hear coming from the steering column or dash. Turns out the culprit was a left-front-strut upper bearing and support, which the dealer replaced under warranty.

POST 6Original post

Thanks for your input guys. I thought this thread was dead but turns out there was a bit of input. Looks like I need to change my notification settings! I'm going to tear apart the strut mount and see what I can find.
