991 GT3 Undisguised

Pretty crazy front end. I like it. New wheels. Huge brakes and callipers.

I really like the front end. It is much better than the 991 standard front. Not so hot on those wheels, though. Easy fix. I wonder what the motor has to offer!! Nice find.

Is the motor "fundamentally different" like in the 997? Or is it a hotter version of the DFI motor which is basically the same as what is in my R but at least 3.8 and 500HP?

That is awesome!!! The wheels look totally functional and very light weight. Doesn't ADV make a similar wheel that's super light weight? I wonder why the cars were just left out in the open like that. Was the far car a turbo? The front end looked similar without the vent on the front hood. I hope they're as fast as they look!!!

Looks like three of them. Where was this? Just curious.

I wonder, might not be an easy fix if you can't find another centre lock option. I assume the hub wouldn't fit non-center lock options which narrows your choices down somewhat.

Interesting little deflector piece in front of the front wheel well. I was surprised no wider wheel wells like on the 997 GT3RS or those dive plane pieces. If the photographer would have snapped a picture under the car of the engine oil pan we'd know if Porsche finally switched away from the old GT1 based split case motors to the new DFI motors for the GT3 (which rumor says they will) and if the photographer would have snapped some pictures of the inside we could have seen if the car had a manual or a PDK (rumored to be on the new GT3). Don't these photographers know what we are looking for???

Front lip requires a lift mechanism to keep it on while leaving the dealer so I assume it will be standard for the 991 GT3. The rear spoiler does not look very well conceived, rather tacked on. There have been some serious accidents related to the centerlock wheels coming off due to torque specifications and user attention to this, at least that is what I have read. Perhaps the 991 will have a different design? If it has paddles it has PDK. If it has PDK it is not the Metzger engine.

Am I right to suggest that this is an affirmation of the soundness of the DFI motor in my R?

Theoretically, we can swap that motor into any cayman with a proper computer, wiring, and fuel pump. No oiling worries. Power and longevity tested by Porsche for its flagship model. Cost aside, this is very intriguing!! Cool.

I believe that the current Turbo has the DFI motor, so Porsche seems to have confidence in its abilityto handle the torque and HP. The question has really been with regard to oiling problems at high G forces resulting in starvation. This is a known problem w/ both M96 and M97 engines, but not with the true dry sump Metzger engine. Presumably this has been fixed w/ the 9A1 DFI motor. The Metzger engine was compatible w/ Tiptronic but not PDK.

Maybe it's the angle in the photo but I'm not digging the front end. Looks like an aftermarket add-on to me.

Not a huge fan but I'm not one of the 991 C2S either. I'm sure the finished product will look more...well...finished The 9A1 motor while very good so far, does not have the character of the Mezger and I doubt it ever will. For those who are unsure of it's resilience to high G oil starvation, search youtube for the video of the test rig simulating such conditions. PDK only will probably initially alienate a lot of the Porsche faithful while at the same time opening up the market to others who simply want the latest, greatest, fastest. As many on ******** have commented, this will likely be a big step towards the digitalization of the GT3. It's inevitable. Luckily, there's a fair amount of 996 and 997 GT3's out there for those of us who prefer to stay in the era of hand-cranked analogue cars :banana:

Cheap after market add on, or they decided to use a Nissan GTR as thier design goal. The rear end does not look at good as a 997 GT3 either, this one just looks big and fat with no definition (Kind of like Kirsty Alley vs. J Lo)...........

i'd bet that big fat bottom lip on the bumper & splitter is an optional piece. It doesnt blend in the curves or radius of the bumper. I think it looks mean.

Not sure those tyres are N rated, warranty void already!!! Tapatalking on my iPad.......

It is supose to be a 3,8l with 450hp and centre bolt as standard with fourwheel drive. Also heard that it wont be available with manual transmission only pdk?
