No doubt they'd be able and want to check the service history if you wanted to put a warranty on a car, so quite why they aren't willing to do that is baffling you don't need to see anyone's details they just need to check if that VIN has been serviced and when.

As I said, it maybe had an oil service done outside the network which wouldn't show on the dealer database but may explain the gap as the previous owner wouldn't have booked it in for a service until the service light came on if it was reset by the indie at the time of the oil change.

It would seem unlikely that the car had not been serviced within the Porsche network from new,and would not think that someone would use an indy for this!

I don’t understand the worry about number of previous owners on a car in this country, it makes no difference.
Hi There,Sorry, not surewhat you mean by "top lurker",I am new to this forum! Yes, you are correct,ot is digital, but say one of the original owners got it serviced by an independant, for example,it would not show up on the Porsche system.I asked why the OPC could not find the original selling dealership, and was told that gdpr prevented this! I asked surely Porsche UK would know which dealership they sold it to when the car was new, only to be told, that as tbe OPc selling the car is a franchise, Porsche UK will not give the supplying dealearships identity due to gdpr.
Very strange. Therefore, the car is left with only a partial service history and a high number of previous owners, which makes me nervouls about buying it. Roy.
Simple, unless you're getting it for an absolute steal then walkaway. There will be other cars out there that will fit your spec/colour etc not worth the hassle of only having part service history imo.
No doubt they'd be able and want to check the service history if you wanted to put a warranty on a car, so quite why they aren't willing to do that is baffling you don't need to see anyone's details they just need to check if that VIN has been serviced and when.
I've read (possibly on PH, I can't recall) of someone else walking away from a deal on this car because of gaps in the service history. I don't remember reading that the service history was missing, more that there were some gaps in it.
It all smells a bit odd to me. I cannot believe that Porsche Cars GB would not be able to provide the selling OPC with as much service history as there is, other than needing to keep private the 'personal information' (things such as name, address, contact details) of any previous owners.
I suspect that some of the background is not being revealed here for a good reason. Which is bad form by the OPC but doesn't necessarily mean that the car isn't a good one.
James
I bought my 991 from an OPC. The Service book was missing so the selling dealer obtained all the service records from Porsche UK, bought a new service book and sent it off to the two OPCs who had carried out previous services (4 in total) who stamped the book etc and it arrived with me a week or so after I had bought the car. The dealer already had a record of all servicing which I was given a copy of on collection. Getting an up to date service book was part of the agreement at purchase (proposed by them, not requested by me) and they were good to their word.
The car came with two years Porsche approved warranty so I'm happy all is legit.
The 'can't get the history' messages the OP is getting suggest either something fishy, or a dealer that isn't trying hard enough to me.
Hi again,Thankyou to everyone that has responded to my appeal for help.It pretty much confirms what I am thinking, that I am probably and reluctantly going to have to walk away from this car.The issue seems to be that the OPC cannot find any service history for the car prior to 11000 miles,in 2021.They therefore cannot produce a duplicate book for the car,as there is nothing on the system to replicate. They offered to stamp a new book for the service they have just carried out at 14k,and the one at 11k,but have no other information prior to this to update a new service book for the car. They also cannot stamp the book as the supplying dealer, and cannot find out the identity of the supplying dealer.
It would seem unlikely that the car had not been serviced within the Porsche network from new,and would not think that someone would use an indy for this! So,even if cheap,in conjuntion with 7 previuos owners, the risk is too great for me,sadly. Will have to save up and find another next year.Interestingly, the buying OPC do remember seeing the book, and confirmed verbally,it was up to date, but cannot remember the previous dealers who carried out the work,or indeed the original supplying OPC.However, they are now saying in their ad,it has a full dealer service history, which to my knowledge,is not correct.
If the porsche was serviced from new by any official Uk porsche centre it is a simple process for the selling opc to pull this information off the central database.
If they can’t do this, there is clearly an issue with the service history.
Something not right about this.
Any OPC can access a Porsche's service history if it's been done in the network. You're being told some porkies here, no pun intended
My 991.2 GT3 purchased in May was missing a stamp, I only noticed when I got home and I sent the book back and got it stamped. I also checked with my local OPC and it was all up to date just to be sure.
They should be able to at least confirm it’s been serviced, if not walk away as others have said!
I nearly bought this car a few months back. Great spec and half Ppf. It became clear along the way that the OPC had lost the book. The sales chap (Arran?) rang every dealer in the south east with no luck. The problem is that whilst the stamp may have been in the book it wasn’t logged with the main Porsche computer so without the stamp to prove it, it may as well not have existed. The service will no doubt be on the dealers computer as a job sheet but without knowing which one your knackered. The car has been sold through main dealer 3 times so it must have had it, but that isn’t going to cut the mustard on trade in so I left it… and found a better car tbh.
I also spoke to the previous owner on Fb and he never checked the history as it was approved used. Good enough for him etc. I can also tell you it was sold/serviced through Sussex, Preston and Leeds but none of them tally with the timing ing service.
If it's on the system, it will be retrievable, if it's not it's fishy but if you are intending on keeping it a long time.. say 6 - 10 years bid them below the waist and have it maintained by a reputable indy and it shouldn't really matter when it's 10+ years old.
That's my opinion anyway.
Hello All,
I am interested in buying the above car and would be interested to hear from anyone who may have any information on the above car.
I was told that one of the previous owners of this car uses PH often, and I hope that someone with previous knowledge will recognise the car. On asking the OPC, they have advised me that they have lost the service book for this car and are unable to provide details of the service history before 11,000 miles. Apparently, the service book was left in the car whilst in the showroom and seems to have gone astray.
The sales person who bought the car has confirmed to me that the book was with the car, fully stamped when taken in part exchange.
The problem arises when the OPC tells me that it is not possible to find the original selling dealership due to GDPR from Porsche UK.
As there have been 7 previous owners of this vehicle, it has proved difficult for them to track down any possibility of previous service history as they say this has not been able to be retreived from the Porsche dealer network computer system.
I am therefore, left with the option to buy the car with an incomplete service history other than one service at 11,000 miles in 2022, and another at 14,000 miles in 2023,
I am somewhat reluctant to buy the car even at a reduced price due to the 7 previous owners and lack of confirmed full service history.
Whilst I would still like to buy this car, as it meets most of my wants in specification and colour, I am somewhat concerned as to the provenance and the viability of reselling the car in the future with a partial service history if needed in future.
Any opinions and suggestions would be most greatly appreciated in helping me to come to a decision.
Thank you to everyone who can assist.

I am sure Porsche will supply a replacement book and stamp it up no problem. That’s not gdpr relevant for the opc to do it.
They would if it’s on the central computer, but it isn’t. That’s the issue.
Sounds like this car could be heading for the auction blocks if it’s got a big gap in its service history.
It’s not as if they’re not choice out there nowadays.
should be on their computer and they can print out a copy of what's on their computer which will have everything about the car-exact service, dates and times, recalls etc- they are not supposed to show the customer this record but may allow you to visually look at it on their 'computer screen'
if its not on the computer then walk away imo as the car being serviced in the opc automatically link to the computer record, plus you will have the problem when you come to sell

Yes makes semse today but you know those Porsche MD,s they wont stop laughing.
I see the problem, however ...
- it looks like its only done 14k miles, so services may not have been absolutely needed (in engineering terms rather than 'recommended' terms. Am I right in thinking these are oil change every 6k miles / 1year? major service 24kmiles / 4 years?
- the service record goes someway to verifying mileage, alongside MOTs and car data (i presume)
- with high ownership, perhaps everyone moved it on before a service was due!
- if the car gets a full stamp of approval from someone independent to the dealer (who has a recognised standing in Porsche circles) you could now consider it year zero again.
- How long do you plan to keep it? if 5 years or so, and assuming the above, then the impact of a lack of service record for the first 11k miles will diminish
It will always be worth less, hard to say how much, so as long as you get that reduction now and accept it on future disposal, you may well have a bargain

This may be correct (the servicing frequency bit) but since the car did 3,500 miles in 10 weeks in 2021 with no evidence of servicing either before (by which time it would have been overdue a service on both miles and time) or afterwards, that's not ideal
Currently dealing with a issue on warranty with this dealer, let me tell you, its been an awful experience so far... just awaiting an outcome and will keep you informed...
Just to help you out with this
Car was PDI'd on the 13/11/17 at 8 miles
17/9/20 It had a DME reprogramme Tracker activated and an airbag control unit replaced at 2991 OPC Guilford
26/4/21 the DME was reprogrammed and a warranty check done at 5275 miles. OPC Sheffield
4/6/21 it went in for a software update and had cruise retrofitted. Mileage 5994. OPC Leeds
20/5/21 was in for new wipers, roof rattles and a new tyre (or possibly 2) mileage 5675 OPC Leeds
30/6/21 warranty check for pre-owned. Mileage 8791 OPC Leeds
23/3/22 Major service including drive belt at 11446 miles OPC Mid Sussex
14/7/22 MOT at 12021 miles OPC Mid Sussex
17/9/22 MOT, 111 point check and some work to bring it up to the standard needed (what work I don't know). Mileage 12235. OPC Preston
27/9/22 Tracker was reactivated. 12250 miles OPC Preston
10/10/23. 111 point check and a 6 year service done. Mileage 14426 OPC Preston
17/10/23 MOT. Mileage 14426. OPC Preston.
Could have had an oil change done outside of the dealer network which may give a reason for the 5 year gap between services.
As a disclaimer, the info above should be confirmed by the relevant OPCs. I'm not responsible for missing or inaccurate info.
Hope it helps.

Hi Scrounger 73,Many thanks for that, very enlightening,I must say.I wont ask you how you know this, but very interesting. There are still some very big concerns on my side, for example,if all the above is known, why is there either one or two services missing?I wonder if a service was done, and when the OPC inputed the information, there was an error made with the vin number, and was therefore not able to be seen by the Porsche network computer? This would explain why the service book was witnessed to have been stamped, but cannot be found on thePorsche system history. If you can see the PDI date, can you not say at what OPC that was performed? This would help a lot.Thankyou for all your help.Roy.
Morning Roy.
Sometimes it better not to ask;) It just says it was done at the Porsche Group Operations Centre which could well be Head Office at Reading. As I said, it maybe had an oil service done outside the network which wouldn't show on the dealer database but may explain the gap as the previous owner wouldn't have booked it in for a service until the service light came on if it was reset by the indie at the time of the oil change. The major that was done at the OPC would bring it back in line with the used car warranty requirements.
I'm sure that Preston could find the warranty book if they try hard enough. They are pretty good there. Maybe inform them that the lack of service book is going to be a deal breaker if they can't find it.
It doesn't look like it's had a hard life really (but who knows) covering only 14500 miles in almost 7 years. The warranty is on it until 29/4/25 but I'd have thought they'd extend that from the point at which it's sold to give a full 2 years warranty to the new owner.

Hi Scrounger😁,
Thankyou so much for your help again.Opc Preston have tried everything to find the missing services, because they saw the original book, and can remember it had other services prior to 11k miles. Can I ask what "dme" is? If I can find the dealer who did the pdi,Preston has said they will get a new book stamped up for me if we can find the supplying dealer. It is a shame,as this car is the spec I want, but to those who say number of owners does not matter,in this case it makes trying to get information on the cars history impossible. If only we could find more info, otherwise I will have to find another car, which I am prepared to do.Thanks again.Roy.
Digital Motor Electronics or ECU.
As Guilford are the first dealership on the list, I'd try giving the service department a call and ask them if they've done work on the car prior to 2020. It may be a case that the VIN was inputted incorrectly by the Technician. Give them the registration rather than the VIN. It may also be worth calling Reading as the gap appears to be between 2017 and 2020 when the car would also have needed an MOT. Not required to be done by an OPC as we know but why would you send a GT car to a back street garage for one when an Indie or OPC can do it as part of a service.
Just throwing some ideas about which may/maynot pan out.
Good morning,
Thank you again, those are my thoughts exactly.Who would have a brand new Gt3 and not get at least the first service done at an OPC.I will do a car vertical check, and cross match the early ownership changes/mot's etc etc,and see if I can find some sort of pattern.I know that opc Preston called all the dealers in the SE,and would have assumed they checked under the reg no also, but you never know! The car had ppf on it from new I think,it does not sound like an owner who did not look after their car, unlike the owner who did 3.5k in 10 weeks. We shall see.Best regards,Roy.
I dont disagree on both counts, but for me its not the car's fault, and I am passionate about my cars, and will spend a little more time trying to unravel the mystery, and if I cant,I will move on to looking for another car with less problems.I agree,PH is a great resource, and am grateful to all who have given their input.
LC is a London/Wimbledon Reg plate code. Given the first OPC work logged is Guilford, this would be my first port of call.

this is a bit of a longshot, but LC67 FYY was a Porsche 718 also registered in November 2017. I know the last 3 letters are supposedly random, but a friend had a new car whose reg number was the letter before mine and it was bought from the same dealer in the same month. Can your OPC find the dealer where the 718 was registered?
Edited by CanAm on Tuesday 26th December 10:26
Exactly my thinking,as its early recorded history was tnere too, although supposedly the Preston OPC had already tried all the other opc's in the SE.I am not sure how helpful they will be towards me,rather than another opc,we will see.
I think you’re suffering from target fixation.
Totally understandable, you want to fix the riddle of the service history, it could just be down to admin errors and it could be the right car.
In some ways now, it’s the last OPC service which counts as it gets the car into the 2 year warranty. But, this car will always be a problem car to sell - unless the history can be rebuilt which is unlikely.
Honestly, walk away and look at the next one.

This.. this was easily a walk away car.. or you put all the pieces together and someone jumps in before you. When I was looking for a 991 T, their Miami Blue one tick some boxes and I went to see it, this 991.2 GT3 was there and the price was attractive so i asked some questions and was told complicated History, enough said. Look for another car or wait and the cars will come to you..
The car's specifications, mileage, and history appear to be consistent, which is encouraging. The fact that it has had seven owners is somewhat high, but this isn't unexpected considering the frequent buying and selling that occurred during that period. At this point, they would need to offer a highly attractive financial deal to motivate me to move forward, to offset whatever you may loose when selling on later.

Agreed, the Data Protection Act and GDPR both refer to "information about living people". Providing the name of the supplying dealership in no way contravenes legislation.
