I cant decide between the two but I can't have both..Any experts that can give me their inputs?
What will you be using the car for?
Daily driver or track weapon?
For a DD, I would go with the Turbo. For track duty, the GT3 will fit the bill really well.
Personally, I'd go for the 993. She's air cooled and just is a classic. The GT3 is awesome as well. If it were between a 996 turbo and a 996 GT3, I'd agree 100% with the above comment. But considering a 993, well, I just can't!
993 Turbo will be better for road AND track for most drivers.
If you want "modern" levels of power, you can boost a 993 to OMG.
The 996 GT3 really isn't suitable for a DD if that's what you have in mind. The suspension is very "old school" track car, and even here in South Florida where we have no potholes and generally smooth roads you will feel every irregularity in the pavement. Steering is incredibly precise but w/ kickback like an aircooled 911. Also if the 996 GT3 has PCCB there were some potentially expensive issues w/ Gen I PCCB rotors cracking. Need to do do some homework there. I've never thought the 996 styling was that great, but that's a matter of taste. The 993 Turbo has become a true classic in a short time and the prices continue to reflect this, the Turbo S in particular. As these cars age and become more desirable it becomes difficult to subject them to the hazards of DD duty IMHO. Weekender, for sure, but DD?. It seems wrong not to pamper such a car. Styling of the 993 Turbo is among the very best of the 911s in my opinion. Nicest wing of the Turbos since the first 930 w/ the smallest of the whale tails. Two very different choices.
I agree with all comments. This decision is really hard because style wise, i'm in love with the 993 but I love the GT3 performance as well. This will be a weekend car for me and I just want one that I can drive both leisurely around city and once a while on the track. Another issue is that finding a prestine 993 is extremely difficult versus a GT3 and I think that their prices are much higher too. Funny how a classic porsche can commands so much more money than a modern one. What do you guys think of reliability/maintenance etc..Chances are i'm going to keep my Cayman S and previously Id thought of throwing the Black Series into the mix..but deep down, i want a manual car.
Also, i want a one owner car with low miles. For me its like meeting the parents before dating her further..lol..Where do you suggest to look for one?
The 993 Turbo would be my choice far above the 996 GT3, but it will not be cheap to acquire a low milage example in bristol condition. Sloan Porsche always has nice cars on their website but they really want super-premium prices. There's always your local classifieds and autotrader.com. I am not a fan of craigslist or ebay, but that's me. I'd check out Porsche Excellence's website for their buyer's guide as a start.
