The immobilizer itself has a fuse as well, you need to disconnect the battery first an then check that fuse.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 99 base started only in neutral. I moved it 10 feet because of a summer storm. After the bad storm, went to move it back, it started and ran real rough. I hit the gas, it made a bad sound and died. Now, it won't even try to start. Battery is 100% charged. But no start, no crank, nothing. Any ideas?

POST 2Original post

Look under the driver's seat for the alarm/immobilizer and look for wetness; if it is wet, that is your problem.

POST 3Original post

My no-start last week was my clutch switch. Bypass the clutch switch to eliminate that. I found a really good youtube video for troubleshooting no-start that I saved, because it did a great job of walking through no-start troubleshooting. https://youtu.be/ZSmehtE8Ctk

That's nice, cheers, I saved it as well. I wonder why he does not check fuse C3, because that is the immobilizer. The immobilizer itself has a fuse as well, you need to disconnect the battery first an then check that fuse. You at least have to loosen and tilt the seat for easy access....

POST 6Original post

does immobilizer prevent start ? as in endless cranking ? or does it completely disable the starter circuit ?? i always thought it just disabled the car from actually starting , but fortunately have never had to find out.

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 666532

You are absolutely right, it prevents starting but won't avoid cranking! My bad.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the help so far. I watched the youtube video. None of that helped, unfortunately. I now think that it's the park/neutral sensor. Like I said, I had to resort to starting in neutral. Then nothing. I guess it finally failed. Any videos/tutorials on replacing it? I imagine I'll have to remove the shifter housing?

POST 9Original post

The starter failed me and I replaced it but never had what you described. 986 Boxster - a dead or failing starter motor can manifest as slow cranking, a clicking noise when trying to start, no response at all, intermittent issues, or a burning smell from the engine bay.

POST 10Original post

Your problem began after a major storm according to your initial post, you need to start looking at the immobilizer under the driver's seat, a major failure point when these cars get wet inside..............
