If you move on it quickly there is a possibility you won't have to replace the dryer assembly, but the longer the system is without gas and open to air the more likely that will need replacing (probably a $300 part..)

So, the 2008 Croc I picked up four months ago. Today I was unloading some groceries from the frunk while the car was running, and boom! Loud hissing, and a white cloud comes out from the passenger side, near the windshield. Lasted about 5-7 seconds. could detect an odor, also a bit in the interior. Question: Should I go the dealer route, or an auto A/C repair place? Any idea what it might cost to fix?

Without knowing what popped - impossible to estimate the cost, but it won't be cheap. The location is where a number of the AC pipes run to the evaporator in the HVAC box. I believe the fill ports are also in that general area. I'd suggest going to an independent with Porsche experience - not every independent mechanic does AC work, and not every AC shop does Porsche work. I think you're looking for a shop with both qualifications - does AC work and knows how to do it on a Porsche. I dunno where you're located so I can't suggest a shop. If it was in the NJ area I have two independents I'd suggest.
