Just got myself my second 987
boxster
last week. Happy to be back in the club post-pandemic.
Car wasn't driven much and had a battery replaced at dealer per carfax.
3 things don't work so here were my initial thoughts.
Center console lighter, ok fine no problem i can switch it out if not a fuse.easy.
heated seat buttons on temp/vent control module don't light up/turn on.....hmmm...are they programmed?
passenger window doesn't go up on it's own from either of the doors and it doesn't go back up when the door is closed...hmmmm..possible passenger door handle microswitch?
i got a foxwell NT530 and plugged it in.
it says heated seats are installed, now i'm wondering.... is the temp control module faulty or where else should i be looking? I'm new at the foxwell. maybe there is test feature to turn on the heated seats?
i tried the window programming sequence with the key on and with engine running.
something like window up, hold 10 seconds, window down hold 10 seconds, window up hold 10 seconds... not sure if i am doing anything wrong but window doesn't close that last 1/4 inch on it's own.
i am looking for any advise to turn on my heated seats and passenger window closing all the way up automatically.
Windows need resetting after a battery change, I think it's all the way up and hold two seconds but it's in your owner's manual. If you do refer to it, I'd look to see if some of the non working items share a fuse and then check it.
Car needs to be running for heated seat buttons to activate. See if that helps; that tripped me up recently.
Window is now fixed after clearing codes and running tests on passenger window while engine is running. now… still no heated seats! 🤷♂️
Yes - Heated seats are programmed to a car with a
PIWIS 2
-- which is more complex than a Foxwell. I use one to trace faults, etc.
BTW - Although I doubt that your climate control unit is defective, I will be selling mine from my
987.2
-- which is all black and in mint shape...and has the heated seat buttons. Feel free to PM me if you decide to go that route.
Welcome to P9!
The window "learn" procedure is - window all the way up or down, and hold it for 10 seconds. Release and then hit switch in the same direction to store the position. It's the 2nd step that most people miss.. the Foxwell does have the ability to tell you the status of things like the heated seat buttons on the HVAC controller, but you'll have to hunt it down. It might be under the gateway or under the HVAC section. Look for real-time data..
Would you assume that my seats are indeed installed/activated with this result? Because still doesn’t turn on?
When changing out battery, I lost heated seats, headlight washers, lighter, rear spoiler.
needed dealership to finally turn them all on.
that's interesting...
i am wondering and beginning to realze i don't have a working lighter, the rest of my 12v sockets are fine....i figured it just went bad because the fuse was looking fine.
Thank you. Looks like this is a common "random" surprise scenario. I guess there is more to this than i thought.
Going to see the dealer
next
Tuesday. They changed the battery on the car a few months ago for the previous owner and I guess they didn't didn't handle things right.
This seems to add up. Again, this is something that either a dealer or someone with a
PIWIS 2
could handle. Again, the latter allows you do all sorts of stuff that the Foxwell and other aftermarket units can't. If you're interested, do a search on P9 here per the
PIWIS 2
if you're at all handy with computers -- so you can avoid repeat visits to the dealer. Cheering you on here!
