This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

So I discovered here the outboard cv joint boot can only be replaced by removing the inner boot. Looking previously I had a difficult time finding that particular kit-boot, clamps-but searching just now I found at least two claiming the boots, inner and outer, are interchangeable. The kit for the outer I bought from FCPEuro was for the ‘outer’, searching for the inner produced no results. One of the websites claiming they’re interchangeable is a Porsche dealership, they’re also claiming the thin will fit a wide range of years including the 718. Any experience out there?

POST 2Original post

Just to clarify - what model are we asking about? A 987 or a 718? And has the boot actually failed (cracked or torn)?

POST 3Original post

987.1 It appears to have failed, grease coming out from the outside edge of the outside (large) clamp. Tried moving the clamp by pushing on the clamp ‘buckle’ but it won’t move. So either the clamp or the boot has failed. Have a good image of it but I haven’t figured out how to post it here.

POST 4Original post

Looks like the clamp is leaking. You should be able to get a screwdriver under the end of the clamp and pop it off. Various types of replacements available.

POST 5Original post

Yup. A bit of searching will turn up some detailed threads on the type of clamp to use and where to find it and the tool needed to install it. No need to even remove it from the car..

POST 6Original post

+1. Mine looked exactly like your photo. Don’t make this a bigger project than it needs to be. I bought the clamps (and necessary pliers) recommended here and got the job done in 10 minutes. Track days appear to heat the grease to liquid form which slings it out of loose clamps and around the inside of the wheel. A new, tighter clamp solved the issue completely.
