Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi chaps, I've got a 996 c4s, the brakes have the original pads but I can only describe them as wooden with no initial bite, I've tried to deglaze them by applying the brake heavy at over 80 mph but they still feel the same. can anyone recommend some pads with good bite and no squeal (road use only) Cheers.

POST 3Original post

Hi, is this your first Porsche? The brakes have less of a servo effect on them than other cars so do take some getting used to; less 'bite' but more feel. If you're confident they have had it then the Textar pads are a cheaper alternative to Porsche branded, they are generally regarded to be the equivalent, or even identical (without the Porsche box) to OEM: http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt66_...-1997-08-01/Brakes---Discs---Pads/Brake-Pads/

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, yes its my first Porsche good call so i take it that a different pad compound wont make much difference because thats how the brakes opperate. :?: Cheers

POST 6Original post

if by any chance you are coming from an Audi - it'll feel like the brakes don't work! On the flip side, everytime I step back in my wife's A3 I almost catapult everybody out of the car at the first set of traffic lights!

POST 7Original post

My daily driver is a BMW 5 series (535) and that has very servoed brakes that bite well with little effort. When I got my 996 I thought there was something wrong just because they didnt do that. Once you accept it they have great feel and loads of power. They just dont make the car stand on its nose at the slightest touch. So all in all sounds pretty normal.

POST 8Original post

I'd agree with all the other comments here, the feel is different but once you get used to it, they're brilliant and very confidence inspiring. Only suggestion would be check and change your brake fluid if necessary. If you push the pedal down aggressively in a straight line and the car comes to a screaming halt then the cars fine. :thumb:
