Car had gone to sleep as it has not been used for a few days so I had to open the door with the key but now the remote doesn't seem to do anything, even after having started the car, I had to lock it again with the key.

Is it possible to lower the window on my 996 cab using the key fob when enetring and exiting the car, I used to have this function on a BMW coupe and it made life much easier getting in and out of the car in tight spaces.

Can you lower the windows with the key fob?

Suggestion

On mine I can only lower or raise the complete hood system which does of course lower the windows a well using the key fob.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

4 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

A friend of mine has a boxster, I told him about the function and he tried it on his car and it worked, I told him to press and hold the button to unlock the car and the windows lowered after a few seconds.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello again all Is it possible to lower the window on my 996 cab using the key fob when enetring and exiting the car, I used to have this function on a BMW coupe and it made life much easier getting in and out of the car in tight spaces. Thanks Gary

POST 2Original post

Depends on the model year. Key remote (comfort opening and closure) was a feature on earlier coupes (not sure about cabs) but I've heard several people with later cars don't have this function. The complete answer for you is a SmartTop, which gives you what you want, plus a few more features for the softtop.

POST 3Original post

No I dont think so. On mine I can only lower or raise the complete hood system which does of course lower the windows a well using the key fob.

POST 4Original post

stupid question time... If I had this feature, would I know about it or is it something I need to setup? Thanks

POST 5Original post

It isn't something you can set up yourself, but your 2000 car should have the feature. To check it - open the windows (and sunroof if you like). Shut the doors, and press AND HOLD the remote button. The car should lock, and the windows and roof should close. The windows will also open if you hold the button when you unlock - but the roof won't open.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A friend of mine has a boxster, I told him about the function and he tried it on his car and it worked, I told him to press and hold the button to unlock the car and the windows lowered after a few seconds. On the BMW system after you have climbed in the car and shut the door, the window closes automatically, it's amazing how much easier it makes getting in and out of a car without the window being in the way.

POST 7Original post

Thanks Richard, I shall go and try in a minute...

POST 8Original post

I use this feature to get in and out of my car all the time... Much easier and it reduces the risk of banging the door edges on other cars etc.

POST 9Original post

Didn't work and now I'm confused... :? Car had gone to sleep as it has not been used for a few days so I had to open the door with the key but now the remote doesn't seem to do anything, even after having started the car, I had to lock it again with the key. It's as if the battery in the remote is dead but that's too much of a coincidence, surely? Grumpy now..

POST 10Original post

Just tried it and it doesn't work on my 99 cab.Windows stayed exactly where they were.

POST 11Original post

It worked on my '99 C4 and works on my 01 Turbo... Are you aware you have to keep the button pressed for a good 5 seconds or so and then keep it pressed until the window is fully open / closed? Unlike some BMWs and similar that work if you just press the button for 3 seconds and let go...

POST 12Original post

yes it works on mine by keeping the button on the key pressed down, and winds them back up again if I repeat the process. You have to be mindfull though that it is quite easy to wind them down a bit by mistake if you keep hold of the lock button for too long! If your car is a similar model to mine, just lock the door but keep your finger on the button and you may have the same useless feature as me!

POST 13Original post

Just been in my garage to try mine. It worked fine when I unlocked doors ie. the windows opened. They would not go up again though when I locked it :?: Any excuse to go and sit in my car

POST 14Original post

That's what happens on later models. They seem to have lost the 'comfort closure' feature somewhere along the line.

POST 15Original post

From my BMW days I found that if a function worked half way then the ability to reprogram was there. Is this the same with Porsche Richard?
