I've changed the drivers side rad on a 03 C4s but when I fill it and it gets up to temp the top pipe comes off, I thought maybe I hadnt fitted it back in correctly the 1st time but the 2nd time I fitted it as far as I could tell it was in correctly with the retaining clip fitted but it still leaked, any ideas??

Suggestion

Also make sure you get all the air out of the system to ensure it's not presssure related - run the car at standstill with collant cap off and get up to temp, go for a drive with cap on, and top up as required!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys, I've changed the drivers side rad on a 03 C4s but when I fill it and it gets up to temp the top pipe comes off, I thought maybe I hadnt fitted it back in correctly the 1st time but the 2nd time I fitted it as far as I could tell it was in correctly with the retaining clip fitted but it still leaked, any ideas??

POST 2Original post

Hi, I would make sure you are putting the pipe on the rad as far as the stop locating lug on the rad side then make sure the spring clip is on tight and in good condition, replace for new if needed. Also make sure you get all the air out of the system to ensure it's not presssure related - run the car at standstill with collant cap off and get up to temp, go for a drive with cap on, and top up as required! :thumb:

POST 3Original post

It's possible that the hose is damaaged - you may need to fit a new one........... Also, check to see if the metal stub pipe has been damaged - it could be out of round. :thumb: Ray

POST 4Original post

sometimes the part where the clip sits in on the rad has a little overspray on from manufacture and the clip doesn't sit in the gap correctly.. take it out fit the clip in the rad then apply little lube to pipe and seal and push it back in rad and you should hear the clip jump into place other wise it may be a damaged clip or o'ring on the pipe..as suggested

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have the pipe on now that it wont pull back, put previous instructions are to warm the car up with the filler cap off, when the temp get up its just spits the fluid out over the floor, what am I doing wrong?

POST 6Original post

maybe air lock i found filling header up and pop off overflow pipes from each side of rad untill water comes out re fit,and warm up and re top up as needed no problems.
