Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

How long should the brakes take to get up to operating temp as I can remember having a similar issue many, many years ago when I use to have M1 Mexicos running on Mintex pads.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Still being a newcomer to the delights of Porsche driving I've been pleasantly surprised with the feel of the brakes compared to my every day drive company BMW, which I now find over sensitive. Well I managed to take the car out for a 15 - 20 min (15 miles) run on Saturday (rather than just starting it and letting it tick over on the driveway) but never got it over 3k rpm due to the conditions. The temp gauge went up to just over 80* and everything felt fine other than the brakes... how long do they take to warm up as I was really having to stand on them when I needed to stop at junctions, no excessive pedal movement but boy did they feel dead. Is this normal or should they have warmed up in this time/distance?

POST 2Original post

Hi - Its just a matter of getting used to them, as your 911 brakes have no servo assist they will feel materially different than the ones in your BMW's the more you press on the more progressive they become - once you are used to the new feel you will find that they stop you far better than the ones in your BMW's. If they dont then get them checked out they may be worn or there may be another issue with them.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was more than happy with the feel and performance of the brakes when I had driven the car in warmer weather, it was just this last run in very cold, sludgy conditions as I was really having to stand on the pedal. How long should the brakes take to get up to operating temp as I can remember having a similar issue many, many years ago when I use to have M1 Mexicos running on Mintex pads.

POST 4Original post

Addmittedely they do work better with a bit of heat in them, if your car has been standing for a few days the discs may just want scrubbing off, try a few emergency stops (where its safe to do so) then see what they are like after that, the only other advice I can give you if you still feel they are not right is get them checked out.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Phew...panic over! Just dropped the car off for a major service about an hours drive away and the brakes performed admirably once warmed up. Having read a few of the recent posts on here about oil pressure, battery/alternator problems, average MPG, water temp etc I kept my eye on the dials during the drive and the following were the results - Oil pressure - 5 at start up (cold) Oil pressure -2ish at tick over (warmed up) Oil pressure - 4.5 driving (warmed up) Voltage - 14 Coolent temp - just over 80 degrees Average MPG - 23.3 mpg Average speed - 54 mph (good boy!)
