Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I must admit Richard I have always checked the oil on my cars when left overnight to settle, surely that's a true reading of how much oil is in the car.
Leading evidence: 'Check oil' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check of the oil or looking at the dash read-out' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Are we talking about actual "use the dipstick" checking of the oil or looking at the dash read-out?

Is it true the engine must be warm before I check the oil level?

Suggestion
If you have it right up to the max stone cold, as per today for instance, then it would be technically slightly over filled when hot, which I think is the reason its supposed to be at operating temp.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Guys
Can you drive a cabriolet with the rear spoiler raised manually?
Can it be left permanantly raised and if so could this cause any issues?
Is it true the engine must be warm before I check the oil level?
Thanks in advance.
Gary
Quick questions quick answers:
1. Yes (if it works the same as the coupes which it surely does)
2. Why would you want to (you would need to bypass the electronic raise / lower signals)
3. Yes (same as with all cars)
Other Porsche owners will know you are either posing or think you have amal function but if floats your boat jfdi!
You could sit a surf board on the back seat, top down with choice Beach Boys music on your stereo this would take away the mal function train of thought
On my C2 I always used to check the oil when stone cold, after it had drained back in to the sump overnight. I found this was the most accurate way, as if you do it when warm there is a variable countdown time on the level gauge, and I found the reading varied.
Sorry, you've lost me! I just think the car looks better with the spoiler raised.
I must admit Richard I have always checked the oil on my cars when left overnight to settle, surely that's a true reading of how much oil is in the car. However I'm no expert
Given the small amount of oil between each of the marks on the dash guage (approx 0.25 of a litre per mark ) I believe engine at operating temperature allows for expansion of the oil with heat.
If you have it right up to the max stone cold, as per today for instance, then it would be technically slightly over filled when hot, which I think is the reason its supposed to be at operating temp. But whether it would make any difference I have no idea.
Mine is at max when hot and just one bar less when stone cold.
I usuallt check it after it has stood for 15 mins or so but is still hot.
I'm sure I must have other things to worry about!
I think most people like to have it running on the maximum mark when hot, but I always try and keep it a bar below that. I found that if I measured it when hot, it could vary by about a bar, yet if I did it when cold it was consistent, albeit at a different level. Not that it used any oil between changes though.
The book says measure it when hot though. Basically, I was just adapting the cold reading for the sake of consistency.
The Turbo is different, being a dry sump engine with an external tank. You HAVE to measure it when the engine gets up to operating temperature, as the OBC won't allow it otherwise. It was nice to be able to check it before you fire it up in the morning, and I miss that. Wish I could find a dipstick for it too. I bought a GT3 one, but it doesn't appear to be long enough.
