Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

Personally, as the lid has to be modified/virgin drilled anyway, I would preference using the OEM mounting points if possible.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

I've solved the problem by carrying around a piece of wood, cut to size, which props the bonnet up.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Guys and girls. My porker has a Gemballa spoiler - see pic - which is quite heavy and obviously bulky. When I need to lift the engine bonnet I can only lift it 80% of the way before the spoiler rubs on the paint work. Plus it won't stay up of its own accord. I've solved the problem by carrying around a piece of wood, cut to size, which props the bonnet up. However, it's not exactly German efficiency is it? Any better ideas?

POST 2Original post

Well the OEM ones have little gas struts, but I guess Gemballas don't. You could try and source a OEM one (perhaps breakers if OPC is expensive) and mount to the Gemballa lid (The OEM anchor point should still exist to hold the lower part to).

POST 3Original post

If he does this then the spoiler will probably rub the paint. He will have to relocate it by drilling fresh holes lower down most probably. G

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That's my concern. I'm hoping someone will come up with a non standard idea, anything goes frankly, so come on guys, get some ideas to me!!

POST 5Original post

... or simply drill the appropriate holes in the lid? As the Gemballa lid appears not to offer a strut, any modification will be "by eye" - that may include a bespoke bracket etc. Personally, as the lid has to be modified/virgin drilled anyway, I would preference using the OEM mounting points if possible. Less messing around. I only suggested the OEM as I guess they have a better than 90% chance of fitting with tweaks. I suppose "off the wall" thinking might include extractor fan hood or door stays, but I know little about them and I do know the OEM gas struts can at least competently hold the weight and are the smallest struts I have seen.
