Is there any reason one would not want to use a C4 6 speed in a C2...???
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Is there any reason one would not want to use a C4 6 speed in a C2...???
EDIT: Reason I am asking the question is because I bought a used 6 speed to put in my C2 & was not informed prior to the purchase that it was out of a C4.
TIA,
- Cam
This might have been a question to ask BEFORE you bought the tranny... you may want to post this on Renntech.org as well.
I would call Porsche and ask the parts department, also check if the part numbers are different that will be clue.
I would assume the transmission and the transfer case are a single unit in the C4. Therefore, you will have three output shafts: left and right rear, and one that goes straight up to the front transaxle. I don't see that working on a C2.
Well, it was purchased off Pelican & advertised as a 996 6 speed.
I never thought to ask if it was from a C4.....why would I?
Anyway, the tranny is already in (now) & working GREAT....thanks.

It may be in, and it may actually work, but there may be issues if indeed it has an output shat that is just spinning away and there would be some power loss because a C4 always has SOME power going to the front. Does your car have PSM? I would be concerned how teh C4 tranny reaced to the C2 PSM when it activated since one function of PSM is to move power to the appropriate wheel that is not losing traction from the wheel that is, would it send more power up front if both rears start to lose traction? I cannot see any of these issues as a good thing. I'd check seriously as there may be safety issues invloved.
I was wondering about power transfer issues as well.
The car has traction control.....is that the same as PSM?
Traction control is mentioned in the manual, but PSM is not.
Cam,
They do this a lot (on purpose) to convert 993TT to rear wheel drive, Viper Bob at the 993TT forum do this everytime without any issues, they disconnect all the front drive stuff, don't think you wiill have any power loss whatsoever, cheers, Sonny.
I had been seeing trannies on EBAY going for ~$3500.00 or so.
I found this one on Pelican PArts for $1000.00.....was not listed as off
a C4, only as for a 996 6-speed.
Only replaced mine as the car was purchased with a bum 6th gear (popped out
with any power application).
I have also found out that I should have removed the viscious coupler (sp)
as it adds extra weight, oh well, live & learn.
ABSOLUTELY........
I had been looking around, not in any hurry to swap out trannies as
not having 6th was not a major problem, when a friend told me
about this one....I snapped it up in a hearbeat.
Had it shipped from Puerto Rico via FEDEX to my mechanics door for $320 & he installed it for $450.00 + fluids......
He is the one who told me it was out of a C4....I never even saw it.
