I was in a similar position with my car, it has a silsleeve engine fitted by autofarm 2 years ago at a cost of approx £12k, I look at it as a positive, the original engine was knackered for whatever reason, now it's got a new shiny one fitted thats only done 10000 miles.

Suggestion
2nd hand engines can often be good value and if the opportunity exists to get an engine health check done at a good Indy(and they put a warranty on it)...

Suggestion
You say that it was a second hand engine fitted, but not that Hartech rebuilt it, but if they give it a clean bill of health then you can be sure it's a good 'un.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all
Just a quick question, I am looking at a 996 c4 with a replacement 2nd hand engine. Installation carried out by Hartech 2 years ago. The question is should this put me of buying it? I have spoken to Hartech who have maintained the car since and they are happy with it's condition. It has a FPSH.
Thanks,
Andy
hi,
take a look at this (lenghty) thread:

sound like having an engine rebuilt by Hartech might actually be an advantage.
Cheers

From my own experience I would say that Hartech having anything to do with the car will only be a big positive factor - it will probably be better than a new engine!

I'd certainly see this as a postive, as Hartech have a great reputation.
I bought my car recently, and I did see an engine rebuild by a reputable company as a huge positive (as the car I ended up buying had had it's engine rebuilt).
I'd also recommend giving them a call and discuss putting it on their warranty scheme for ultimate peace of mind. As the car is 'known' to them you may not be required to pay for an initial inspection.
Good luck with your purchase!
A warranty scheme with Hartech would be nice but I'm up in Scotland so not possible. I'll have a look on the forum for a suitable independent up here. Thanks for all your advice.

You say that it was a second hand engine fitted, but not that Hartech rebuilt it, but if they give it a clean bill of health then you can be sure it's a good 'un. However, I would get that point clarified, for peace of mind, as the preventative engine work they do would add value IMHO.
+ to what the man says

I would also see it as an advantage. I also had an Autofarm sillsleeve engine fitted in mine when it went bang and given the strength and reiability of most of the rest of the 996 a new or good engine in an older car can only be a good thing. Hartech have a vey good reputation generally and on this board.
