I'm in South FL for a few days & dropped by Champion Porsche to find out their scoop on the Cayman & to see an Arctic Silver, PASM car since my hometown dealer has a Basalt Black non PASM. Champion is reportedly the largest P dealer in the country & the array of cars was mind boggling - saw TWO CGTs, etc., but I digress. Their Cayman allocation is 7.5X that of most dealers & they are taking orders for Feb delivery vs. my dealer who is now ordering for the summer. I'd guess they'd cut some deal on shipping.
I met a very knowledgeable, friendly, & helpful salesman named
Larry 'Rev' Reynolds
[phone removed] x213) who, despite knowing I was from out of town & unlikely to buy a car from him, was most generous w/his time. I've no affiliation whatsoever w/either Champion or Larry, but if you're interested in an early delivery this might be a source.
Dan, are you planning to hold onto your 993 AND purchase the Cayman too? How does that Basalt Black look in person?
I've thought about keeping the 993, but unfortunately it'll have to give up its garage space for the Cayman. That's been a source of some torment since I've modded the 993 perfectly for me & really love most everything about it. However, I've been bitten & apparently infected by the little croc. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/regular_smile.gif
The Cayman in Basalt is IMO positively stunning, especially the rear view.
Thanks for your reply!

A few posts have expressed frustration w/long delivery dates from US dealers for built to spec Caymans. There are a few dealers w/large allocations (such as Champion) who are taking orders for Feb/Mar deliveries. Given the profit in these cars at MSRP, I'm sure they'd, at the least, ship for free. Worth a call if you're in a hurry.
My dealership here in Palo Alto, CA has four incoming Caymans that are not spoken for, and the sales manager said that PCNA is making sure there will be unspoken-for cars available on the launch date. A quick check of the N. CA dealers' websites in my area shows this to be true with the Walnut Creek dealer showing three incoming, Fremont four, Burlingame has three, and San Jose has four. All list how the car is equipped and seem to be selling them at MSRP. If one is looking for a car right away, you could search the dealer websites to find one that is equipped close to what you might want without having to order one.

It's interesting that in the Bay Area, most of the available cars have black interiors. Is that the most popular interior color? It'd be last on my list.
I usually don't like black interiors either but the Porsche black was very subdued and very nice. It isn't what you normally think of and I'd suggest not dismissing it until you have seen it. It is actually very good.
From talking with my dealer in SoCal, it sounds like all of their cars in the first round are already spoken for. Then I got a call out of the blue from a dealer in the San Diego area wondering if I was interested in a Silver/Black/19's that will be available in 'early January'. I tried to find out if it was the floor model but he wouldn't confirm it as I told him I had ordered one from a different dealer.
Don't get me wrong...a black interior can be classy looking...but in the heat/brightness of summer, watch out!
I had said I'd never get a black interior car, but unless you go with custom leather I now firmly believe black is best - of course it does somewhat depend on your exterior color, and how much you want to spend on custom color options.
But as someone who might of gone for tan or blue I have to say that to me tan and the other interior trim elements do not look that great together - it needs to go full leather and then change color on several of the trim options for me. I could of spent 5+ grand on this easily to get happy with the tan. But I think black look pretty darn good with few changes.
