Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Mine is the same, seems to run close to 5 bar on all but idle.

Suggestion

Sounds like your idle and perhaps your running pressure might be a bit high compared to Porsche figs (which by the same token always seem a bit low)

Typical oil pressure readings

Use thicker grade oil

Suggestion

The Idle pressure seems a little high (when warmed up), are you using a thicker grade oil?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My C2 is a 2001, 36,000 miles and has 5 bar (max on the scale) oil pressure at cold idle. When it warms up to 90degC the oil pressure sits at about 3.5 at idle, but goes right back up to 5 bar when revving higher than 3krevs. The manual states a typical warmed-up engine pressure of 3.5bar at 5k revs, so if anything my oil pressure is too high! What is the norm? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Once fully warm mine sits around 1.5-1.75 bar on idle... :thumb: (that could be up to 10min after the water temp reaches 90ish in current weather)

POST 4Original post

The Idle pressure seems a little high (when warmed up), are you using a thicker grade oil?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, Mobil 1 used in its first major service 18months ago. Its only done 6k miles since and not needed topping-up at all. I've had to top-up the coolant twice in about a year, probably about a litre in all, but the coolant is still a clear/pink colour. I can feel yet another paranoid thread coming on, I must be the first owner to be concerned that my oil pressure is too high!

POST 6Original post

I'm sure mine sits at 3ish when warmed up on idle. As soon as you apply the throttle it shoots up to 5. I'll check it tomorrow.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the responses so far. ResB, I await your reassurance!

POST 8Original post

its probably just a dodgy oil sender - its quite a common fault. mine sits just below 2 on idle and jumps to 4.5ish over 3K

POST 9Original post

Mine on a rebuilt Autofarm engine (4000 miles) is 5 cold idle about 1.7 hot idle after a thrash and about 4-4.5 over 3000rpm. which I believe is about normal? Sounds like your idle and perhaps your running pressure might be a bit high compared to Porsche figs (which by the same token always seem a bit low) Its probably just an optimistic / faulty sender or guage. But its better to know what the pressure really is so I would get the sender/guage checked in case its reading 3 when its 1 (unlikely)

POST 10Original post

5 bar when stone cold, just below 2 when fully warmed up (approx 10 miles of driving)

POST 11Original post

When warm mine sits at 2.5bar on idle and goes up to 5 at 3k revs. I have the X51 engine which apparently runs higher pressures. Have you got any aftermarket bits on the oil lines / X51 oil pan etc?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, nothing aftermarket at all. I can see that there is quite a range in engine pressures out there, so I will assume all is ok.......... Thanks again for the responses.

POST 13Original post

Didn't go out in mine today as the lad was not at school. Looks like he's back tomorrow so, save for my memory I'll report back the morra!!

POST 14Original post

Mine is the same, seems to run close to 5 bar on all but idle. Makes you a little paranoid!

POST 15Original post

No, Mobil 1 used in its first major service 18months ago. Its only done 6k miles since and not needed topping-up at all. I've had to top-up the coolant twice in about a year, probably about a litre in all, but the coolant is still a clear/pink colour. Am I the only one a bit concerned about the comment above re: coolant? Surely such topping up can only come from a leak in the coolant system? The whole system is about 25 litres so holds a lot of fluid, therefore it would still be a pink ish colour despite topping up with a litre or so. I'd be more worried about this - time to pop into your current Porsche experts!
