Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that contain suggestions
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
Leave the key in the ignition with it turned on when you disconnect & reconnect to avoid the alarm going off.
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect &' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect &' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

You can clear the fault yourself by disconnecting the battery for about 30 mins.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I got my C4 Tip 3 weeks back with 36k on the clock. I put it in for a minor service and all was fine (main dealer Edinburgh). There is now a amber "check engine light" indicated. I'm now back at work (at sea) and it's my wife that has the car. Is this serious, should it be driven and what are the possible faults? It's taken a long long time to get it and now I'm eating myself that something serious has surfaced with my car when I'm away. Any advice anybody?
GK
If it's just a solid light & the power is normal it's nothing to worry about - flashing &/or not making proper power is more serious. Often it's triggered by too much fuel being momentarily detected by one of the 4 lambda probes. You can clear the fault yourself by disconnecting the battery for about 30 mins. Leave the key in the ignition with it turned on when you disconnect & reconnect to avoid the alarm going off.
If it recurs, you may have a cat on the way out or a faulty MAF.
I have same problem this morning. I phoned Porsche and they said being cold weather the emmesions on the car may not be getting away properly, and fooling the computer that something is wrong.
He said it was nothing to worry about but get them read anyway.
The fault could be a variety of things.
Common fault
is a damaged pencil coil. If you continue to drive the car this could eventually damage your Cat as neat fuel enters the exhaust system.
Get the problem checked out just in case you cause collateral damage.
Indy would be a good route as they know the cars and are a lot cheaper than OPC. They can diagnose the fault by connecting to the car's computer and reading the fault codes that generated your 'check engine' light.

Just to counter - I had a solid engine light, took it to have it inspected and the engine was officially buggered.
Ok, 'buggered' is a slight exaggeration, but it's had to be stripped down and have all of the valves replaced.
Personally, I'd make every effort to get it checked out.
