Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've just spent the last hour hunting for the attached - which is probably a much easier way of doing it.....

Other threads describe how to power up the central locking when the battery is totally discharged to allow unlocking the lid (to allow charging procedure!) by using a 12 Volt battery on a special terminal in the fuse box (known as 'A'), however my yr 2000 Coupe does not have said special terminal within the fuses and I can find no hints in the owner's manual.
Leading evidence: 'much easier way of doing it' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'much easier way of doing it' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Use 12 volt battery' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

a) Use the emergency release cable in the passenger side wheel well.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

How do I open my lid? Must I resort to finding the emergency cable pull or is there some other teutonic trickery?

Just a thought :?:
If your car doesn't have a terminal then perhaps its got the old style cable set-up.
Have you tried just pulling the lid opening handle?
ah - but the central locking is 'on' which means that the lid is locked closed; the cable pull will only operate the lid lock when the central locking is unlocked... which I can't unlock due to the dead battery!
If the battery goes flat while the alarm was set, then the lever locks will still be engaged. You can either:
a) Use the emergency release cable in the passenger side wheel well.
b) Fiddle in the gap betweeen the two levers to push the locking bar out of the way with a small screwdriver.
Richard; I have looked under the passenger side wheel arch cover and can see various cables under the h/l tray but can not see the pull loop. How do you locate & push the lock bar out of the way between the two levers (presume you mean the chromed lid levers by driver's seat - can see a round rivet between them but that's all)

You know when something nags at you....
I've just spent the last hour hunting for the attached - which is probably a much easier way of doing it..... Sorry it took so long.
Richard; Thank you and thank you again. It would have been impossible to understand how to slide the locking cam across underneath the lid levers without your link. Front lid is open and the battery is now being charged.
Cheers
Wish I'd known that when I locked my keys in the luggage compartment of my 1999 C4 in Germany once!!!
Luckily I was working at ADAC HQ and they managed to get the car open (long wire through sunroof - fortunately on tilt) and then removing driver's seat to get to screws holding the trim around luggage lock! They didn't put it back together properly though and it wasn't a good journey home!
