It was not wet under the seat when I last checked - checked all around in case there were any leaks.
Leading evidence: 'Check around in case there were any leaks' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check around in case there were any leaks' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Put the ignition key to position 1, swapped over, but still the alarm siren went nuts - presumably on its own internal battery since the horn didn't sound.

I changed my Porsche battery for a Bosch Silver (from EuroCarParts) recently.

And, as mentioned before, the backlights to the digital instruments are on regardless of the ignition position, and the abs pump(!) is running constantly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi there.
My 996 has been standing for the last 10 - 14 days. As the weather has improved somewhat, thought I would pop out for a quick drive.
Car refused to turn over, but interior lights, dash lights, boot release etc all working, and the windows were "dipping" as the door was opened.
As I wasn't sure on condition of the Unipart battery in place, decided there was no real harm in purchasing a replacement. So I purchased a Bosch Silver from Halford, plus a battery maintainer.
Hooked up the new battery, and nothing. Aside from:
1. The sound of some kind of pump running from just in front of battery
2. Backlights on digital elements of dash illuminated
Now, the items above were working with no ignition switched on. Once that was switched on, the following happened:
3. Headlights, brake lights etc all worked
4. No interior courtesy lights
5. Airbag icon iluuminated on dash
6. Car refuses to turn over.
Checked all the fuses, one blowem swapped out. But no difference.
Am I missing something here? Or worse - have I damaged something? Removed/replaced battery as per Porsche instructions.
Would welcome any comments/suggestions.
Thanks.
Vince
Wonder if an engine immobiliser has kicked in? Are you sure the connections are nice and tight? Check the chassis earth for tightness too.
I changed my Porsche battery for a Bosch Silver (from EuroCarParts) recently. Put the ignition key to position 1, swapped over, but still the alarm siren went nuts - presumably on its own internal battery since the horn didn't sound. The car starts just fine and I don't have any warning lights, but to start with the windows got a bit confused and I think the Litronics need some kind of reset as they're not lighting up the road as well as they did before.
On a similar theme, can anyone tell me the minimum spec battery needed on a 2002 996 C2. The existing battery has a CCA (Cold Cranking Amp) of 650. In the warm weather start up was a little hesitant, but now it's got really cold, it's failed to turn over the engine on two occasions.
Many thanks
Hi Do the windows go up and down off the switches ?
If they do but not dropping when trying to open/close the door then they just want re-setting after the battery was replaced.
Try and moving the gear selector lever into neutral and then try and start it.
Mike
What fuse was blow ?
How did you gain entry to the car was it dead and you unlocked it with the key blade ?
Is underneath the passanger seat wet at all ? as this is where the alarm module is located...it also controls interior lighting.
Mike
More info...
Can't remember exactly what fuse was blown, but seem to recall is what brown and/or 7.5A
It was not wet under the seat when I last checked - checked all around in case there were any leaks.
The windows do not open via the buttons.
The door was opened via remote when the old battery was old, and just before battery died when trying to turn it over. I put a cloth in place to stop the bonnet from locking closed!
The interior lights were working from the old battery...
Hope that helps. Appreciate your help!
Ignition lights
No, just the airbag light.
And, as mentioned before, the backlights to the digital instruments are on regardless of the ignition position, and the abs pump(!) is running constantly.

And there's more...
Hmm, will check ignition key "sounds" in the morning!
It's a brand new battery - just out of the shop! My first thought was that perhaps it was duff, but as the horn, headlights, indicators and abs pump are all going, I then had second thoughts. And the lights are bright - not dim as if the battery were drained...
Find it hard to think that two batteries have gone, but hey these things can happen.
I did try an external jump start pack, but that had no effect.
Mechanic/exorcist coming round in morning to remove curse from car.
Vince
ps - just an aside to this, but having read through a fair number of threads, it seems quite common for the batteries to go flat if the car is not used for around two weeks or so... Is that correct?!
