Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Litronic also increases safety for the occupants of the vehicle and for kittens, puppies and children outside it, by allowing a driver to see them sooner and more clearly when they are on or near the road ahead of the vehicle.' I'm just quoting here and if you have the xenons you are set.
Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I saw this on the website for Suncoast Motorsports and I cannot figure out what it is? It is on the front headlamps, but I don't have a clue what it does. Anyone? Thanks Russ

<span class="normal">'Litronic(R) HeadlightsLitronic is Porsche's version of xenon lighting technology, with high-intensity-discharge low beams and halogen high beams. HID lights don't serve well when turned off and on frequently, as when dimming high beams at night. However, as low beams, Litronic units provide a 100% increase in the volume of light output compared to a 55W halogen bulb, while reducing power consumption to 35W. A xenon light, though it appears blue at night, is actually closer to daylight's 'white' light spectrum than any incandescent bulb, further enhancing its ability.
<span class="normal">As well, Litronic free-form reflectors are shaped to provide greater range in a straight line and better visibility to the side of the road. These benefits are two-fold in application. They allow one to drive more quickly on straight and on winding roads, because it's possible to see around turns better. Litronic also increases safety for the occupants of the vehicle and for kittens, puppies and children outside it, by allowing a driver to see them sooner and more clearly when they are on or near the road ahead of the vehicle.' POST 3Original post

SF, Thanks for that info, I had never heard of them but was looking around for some prices on Xenons. That is one of those options that I would have added but didn't know enough at the time. Thanks! Russ

POST 4Original post

Russ, When Porsche introduced the 996 line (MY1999), they didn't offer the Litronic headlamps right away, so those of us who were early adopters couldn't get them. They began to offer them as an option about 8 months into the 1999 MY, then, sometime after that, they offered a retrofit kit. I didn't get them then either, but ordered them for the Cayman becasue the Bi-Xenons (xenon lights for both high and low beams) came as standard on my 2002 turbo, and they're fantastic. I don't think there's a retrofit yet for the Boxsters or 997s, but if you hang in there, they might have one eventually. I believe they offered litronic retrofit kits fo the 993s, too. I remember the kits were priced slightly higher than odering them as an option on the car from the factory. Brad
