It's possible I did not torque the flywheel bolts down sufficiently. I could have also used more lubricant on the release bearing. Or is this a faulty part?
Transmission's most likely coming off again (I can DIY) but hoping to diagnose here if it's not visible once I get the transmission off...
TIA
Did you use a light weight flywheel, the dual mass flywheel has a purpose to prevent the harmonic vibration in the transmission. Just letting you know if that's the case here. My shop told me about the rattle or sequel from the light weight flywheel through the imput shaft to the transmission in neutral.
Does that noise go away when under way?
Noise goes away when driving. I used a new LUK Dual Mass Flywheel - no single mass flywheel.
(Thanks for quick response btw)
Sorry, hope you find the answer.
Update:
I pulled the transmission to inspect the new DMF, clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, etc. All looked fine. Release bearing does have a groove in the center where the pressure plate rubs on it. The DMF does creak a little when it turns left and right.
I also noticed ... OIL... dripping from my air intake!!!!! How hosed is this. Pun intended.
(Reading up on failed AOS, it would explain the horrible squealing and a new AOS is ordered. Horrible amounts of smoke came out of the engine when I tried starting it up.)
How bad does this look... I'm afraid to ask lol
Update: It was a series of failures at the same time.
Alternator
pulley completely failed which explains the metal bearing noise. Swapped it out using a special tool. The
AOS
completely failed which explained the screeching and oil. Both have been replaced, transmission is back in place, DMF is back in place, operating as expected.
The
next
day I went for a sunny drive and almost immediately both my convertible ball joints snapped 🤣 So that's the
next
project. Driving a coupe for now...

Hi Y'all, After my catastrophic AOS failure here - How bad is this AOS failure, if its AOS failure (see... I've just finished a guide on replacing the AOS that I wanted to share. I encountered a few helpful things that I wanted to share: Service Mode: Easier to use convertible top "bump"...
