Suspected cause

The main gripe people seem to have about the 944 is the relative lack of power compared to the 911 variants (something that Porsche could have addressed, but didn't because it would have shown up their more exclusive model) and the comparatively uninspiring engine note of an inline 4 (even if it was the biggest displacement 4 cylinder of its time)

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 2Original post

What you need is a £5K BMW M6 CSi on classified, 150MPH, 285 bhp, 250 lbft torque

POST 3Original post

It's nice to see someone being positive about the 944S too. Makes a change from the it normally receives. Happy Runt Owner

POST 4Original post

Here here Basil. Mine's a 944S as well. Are you going to the Virginia water meet??

POST 5Original post

No I will not be going down to it. Hoping to make a meet in the near future though.

POST 6Original post

Why's that Its no faster than my car and probably slower through the bends

POST 7Original post

Glad you read it so well Thom, but I don't think I've made an error, other than perhaps gramatically it wasnt too clear. Perhaps it should have read- "in essence the 968CS is a facelift model 944, with the MO30 kit as an option" Anyway at least a few PHers agree that there is lots of fun to be had at the bacon sandwich & a can of coke end of the Porker market, as well as at the full roast pork dinner with all the trimmings and a nice bottle of Bollinger end

POST 8Original post

Those M6 CSi's will trounce anything, AJ. I think you may have missed an earlier thread

POST 9Original post

AJ i think Domster has a point about these amazing M6. They are also especially good with bends at speed as if they don't get round they are heavy enough to go straight on,as if the bend wasn't even there!

POST 10Original post

Oi Domster get ya self over to the BMW forum you defector!! selling a 964RS is a crime only excused by then getting a 993RS or a GT3. Although I do agree you should have to suffer the penance of driving a BMW for selling Pork it doesnt mean we just have to lie back & take it, oh no!! I mean selling a 'proper' sports car to get a BMW and a bigger house, and also now being a web forum moderator who has already been telling people off! oh dear oh dear its a slippery path Dom, you will be smoking a pipe reminising about when you were a lad and saying the speed limits are too high next

POST 11Original post

As much as I love the 964RS, you can only make a 911 *so* light and *so* powerful. Go the way of Gemballa, and you'll have spent the price of a two bed flat on something that will still be eaten by an Ultima on track. So the solution is... buy an Ultima. At least Guy won't then be able to out-accelerate me or out-corner me on our little jaunts, assuming the weather is dry and there are no hedgerows in sight The BMW will merely be my 'sensible' car, and if I could find a tartan rug in M colours, I would have one on the back seat. As for the house, well, needs must. The fact it has an oversized garage perfect for Ultima construction had nothing to do with the decision to buy it... And as for being a moderator, that simply means I can keep your posts in check, and make sure that no one disrepects the lithe, powerful supercar coupe that is the M635 CSi

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bullsh*t Try a REAL 944 Turbo Cup. You will be ashamed to own a 964RS after this. www.asarus.com/cup/macup.shtml

POST 13Original post

I can't read that site its all in garlic munchers wordage. We are not in the euro so I thus equate that to the fact I need to know no other language than good old Anglo Saxon oh and don't drink coffee either, its just another government plot for us to feel more at home intergrating with those pesky euro lot, Tea is what you need, if its good enough for Winston Churchill its good enough for me Anyway is it just me or was Doms reply just far too grown up?? I think he was wearing comfy carpet slippers when he wrote it

POST 14Original post

Thom ashamed as in "avoir honte"....do you have a different french / english dictionary than everyone else? 944 cup is still an amazing car however.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How can you know? Have you ever seen one?

POST 17Original post

What a 944 cup? only my Tea cup !! hurrah for tea !! And if I stick a picture of a 944 cup to it, will it then be know as the 944 cup tea cup?

POST 18Original post

or if I convert my tea cup to hold eggs, will it be known as my 944 cup tea cup egg cup?? I think I need a lie down....

POST 19Original post

Thom....i have seen a whole grid of 944 cup & was even more impressed when they started going round the track. as stated previously a very fine car. ref "you are all hopeless" Sorry ,you lost your temper!

POST 20Original post

I'm sure the 944 Cup is light and powerful, but I said '911' in my original post. And even a 944 can only be fettled so much. An Ultima will always be a G-string to the 944's Jockey Y-fronts!!! I must admit to always fancying the 968 Turbo S, but they never made enough of them.

POST 21Original post

Domster - presume you've seen that one of the kit car mags (can't remember which one but it's a current issue) has just started an Ultima build project? Sorry if that was a bit O/T for the Porsche page - just trying to be helpful so you take the plunge with the Ultima and in your desire to get cracking offer me your RS at a knock down price. There we are - back on topic! Chris

POST 22Original post

Hi Chris, Haven't forgotten about your interest, just looks likely that my Porsche tech may buy it from me as his own project car... Cheers for Ultima info. I know about the Which Kit feature. The guy, called 'Detail' or 'Finickerty' or something, even commended PH's very own Stig for his wonderful build website. Says something when journos start looking up PH for advice etc.! Cheers Dom

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Interesting When and where was it?

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Indeed, but you can't say that "only a 911 can blablabla" Re indeed, it will be a G-string to any other car actually What is the point of Ultima in this subject? Err...and your point is?

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, I was just refering to the messages from Domster and Iguana

POST 26Original post

I had actually considered a BMW 6 series - but I didn't want to look like a drug dealer Seriously though - they are nice looking cars and nearly met all my requirments... But I am very pleased with my S2 and it looks like a proper sportscar too, so there >> Edited by AJLintern on Saturday 18th January 01:24

POST 27Original post

Nah its ok to get one now AJ as all the drug dealers, pimps and rap stars (who have usually been at least one of the former!) now have a *Lexus, a Bentley or a big new 7 series Bob Marley. *mind you now a Lex'i is Alan Partridges new wheels it may loose its street cred somewhat!!

POST 28Original post

You better hope that Derestrictor doesn't read that!

POST 29Original post

I do fear the written word of the mightily wordy deristrictor, if I have indeed upset him by insulting the street cred of his Lex'i partridge-mobile. Mainly because his wordy retort would contain so much anicent old english wordage, that I would have to go to the British libuary for several months to research the entire works of 16th centuary playwrites just to understand what he has just called me. I await my fate of wounding by literature, with a backbone of iron, and pray the gods bless me with the insight and fortitude to understand his inevitable pro Lex'i stance

POST 30Original post

Slight off topic - Dom, if your interested in building an Ultima check out this nice site - Ultima GTR Info Site This poor guy is building his Ultima in a TINY garage As for the BMW 6 Series....Another car I lusted about at one stage (still do a wee bit) but like AJ I realised that the drug dealer image is not big and not clever

POST 31Original post

Thanks Photek - CJ is a mate of mine and only lives a few miles away, so he will be a very handy partner in crime! My point is that I am not a complete 911-phile as you would have the forum believe. I have owned two 944s, both good examples, and driven 968s. Unlike you, it seems, I have a fairly open mind re Porsche ownership.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I do not question people's liking but you certainly shouldn't throw a 911 let alone an Ultima in a thread which point is the 944, especially to write things in the likes of "only a 911 can...". Indeed, but this doesn't bring much to this thread. I don't see why "open mindedness" and "Porsche ownership" should be both compulsory. Look Dom, I have dramatically reduced my postings in the PH Porsche forum, not only because I have important things to do during the day but also because you 911 guys have a good time together talking about your mobiles. As such I feel a complete foreigner and I'm sure you understand I have nothing to bring to your own motoring adventures. So please don't come up with your "only a 911 can..."'s in a very rare 944 thread. That's a bit hurting really

POST 33Original post

Hey Thom lighten up a bit - we're all friends here, and everyone's entitled to their opinions... even if they find it hard to admit the superiority of the cars with the engine in the correct place The main gripe people seem to have about the 944 is the relative lack of power compared to the 911 variants (something that Porsche could have addressed, but didn't because it would have shown up their more exclusive model) and the comparatively uninspiring engine note of an inline 4 (even if it was the biggest displacement 4 cylinder of its time) How would people have felt if Porsche had produced a twin turbo flat6 944RS version? Would the 944/968 still have remained in relative obscurity? Has anyone ever modified a 944 with a flat6?

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It wouldn't fit, the engine bay is way too narrow. And it would sound like a bag of nails Btw a friend is currently building a 3.0l Turbo (IMO the car the "4 cylinders" should always have been) and expects around 350 reliable bhp. Check out rennlist.com in the next future for further information...8)

POST 35Original post

Are they really that wide?? Shows how much I know about Porsches OK then how about a 928 V8?

POST 36Original post

Nope all the measurements have been done by a workmate of mine- (very Porsche experienced) and he is certain it will fit. Why you would do it with the power a 944Turbo engine can produce or the beautifly balanced power of a 240bhp 968 engine available I have no idea tho.... Oh also I'm now working with a fella who is shoveing a 4.2ltr rover V8 into his 944 at the moment completely mad I feel but still at least it will be different

POST 37Original post

Thom, please chill out Your comments are getting too personal and you have been a member long enough to know that this is against the spirit of these forums. Threads are meant to evolve, and that is part of the reason why people read, enjoy and contribute to them. The Porsche forum isn't split into Water Cooled/Air Cooled for a very good reason - because it will encourage alienation and cliquism. Everyone can champion their own car, or taste in cars, in good humour and good faith anywhere on these forums. A 911 has unique virtues, just as a 944 has, or a Boxster has. 911 owners don't complain when you 'hi-jack' a thread with tales of a 944 Cup car, so you shouldn't object if your 944 thread gets 'hi-jacked' by mention of a 911. If you want to start another 'very rare' 944 thread, then there is nothing to stop you. As it happens, the thread you started here hardly consisted of much in the way of content - appearing to the cynically-minded to be a round of slow-hand applause for PistonHeads having featured your beloved 944 in an article, as opposed to the 911. This thread will now close. The current content re modifying a 944 will move to a new thread.

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nice comprehensive short article. (Just one little error: The M030 was offered as an option on the CS; it was not a standard fitment Also the 944 Turbo was still for sale in 1991, maybe not in the UK though...) >>> Edited by Thom on Wednesday 15th January 18:58
