Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hi. So I serviced my car this morning and noticed a strong smell of petrol from the engine oil. Any ideas? Also, I refilled with 7.5 litre of Mobil 1 0w40 but the digital oil meter is at the low end. Should I top it up until the gauge reads full?

POST 2Original post

Actually, you do not want the gauge to read all the way up.. it's better for the AOS if the gauge reads one or two lines down.

POST 3Original post

Thanks Gilles. Good advice. I changed the air filter during the service and noticed a small amount of oil at the plug-in end of the filter. I think I'll go ahead and order a new AOS .👍

POST 4Original post

Before replacing the AOS , why don't you test it first with a manometer? (as replacing the AOS is not a very fun job..) If you have to replace the AOS , I would strongly suggest you to replace the 'accordion hose' that goes from the AOS to the top of the engine block (right behind the driver side on US spec car), these hoses are old and become very brittle, replacing them is not too hard, with a little patience without removing the intake plenum, going through the engine cover behind the seats.

POST 5Original post

Oil will always smell like fuel, especially in these flat 6’s. Oil should never go beyond that top mark. Only check oil after it’s sat over night… as for the AOS , drag to put in but year check or first. That level bars are like a 1/4 of a quart (they’re abouts)… so check it carefully
