Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've just renewed my two rears (Michelin Pilot Sports) after getting 10K miles out of them.
Leading evidence: 'Replace two rears (michelin pilot sports)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend byfleet/camtune, who' (1 discussions). I'd actually recommend Byfleet/Camtune, who used to be independent, but are now an OPC.

I faced this dilemma too when I came to the end of the warranty - replace with OPC servicing or go indie.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have an 02 996 Carrerra 2 Cabriolet (Black) with a full main dealer service history.
The car has 35k on the clock. I am debating whether to keep up with the main dealer servicing or go for the cheaper independent option.
I may only keep the car for another year. Should I go to the dealer to help with resale value etc. :?:
PLUS what are you guys getting in terms of rear tyre wear?
Cheers
B
There will be lots who'll tell you to continue with the OPC service history as there is a theory that:
a. it's a better service, and
b. it'll help to maintain the resale value of your car.
Personally, I wouldn't agree with either. I've owned my '03 996 for five years now and I've had to learn my lesson the hard way. I wouldn't have dreamt of taking my 'new' 911 anywhere other than an OPC when I first got it. I'm afraid that (in my case) I was wrong to make the assumption that there could be no better place to go. Corners were cut, high prices were charged and, I'm very sorry to say, lies were lied! I soon came to my senses and started taking mine to my local Indi. To be brief, I basically can't shut my Indi up about my car when I go to collect it after a service. He's great and I trust him. The (my) OPC equivalent? "If you'd just like to enter your PIN number, sir....."
I wouldn't consider taking your car to an Indi as a cheaper option, though: I'd regard it as a better one.
When I come to sell my car privately I will specifically note that the car has NOT been to an OPC for the last four services. Enough said.
Tyre wear? I've just renewed my two rears (Michelin Pilot Sports) after getting 10K miles out of them. But no one seems to believe me!
These are just my observations. Your OPC might be excellent and you might be surrounded by rubbish Indi's. You've got to go to know, as they say!
I would agree with the specialist route.
IMHO OPC and all other main dealers are only interested in selling cars after that they show little interest and perhaps deal more with customers who process servicing costs through their business.
For a car that is less than 5 years old there may be some benefit as it may be px'd back into an OPC but thereafter it will make little difference.
I went through exactly the same dilemna with mine last year.
Having experienced both OPC and indie since owning mine, no question that I will stick with Indie, although make sure you get a good indie recommendation if that is the route you choose as at least OPCs are regulated to a certain extent by Porsche GB.
Indy for me - unless I happen to be in Germany on business when a service is due: I have it done at Cologne OPC in that case - Excellent customer service, UK Indy prices, Porsche stamp in the book and they only do what is necessary (not what they can get away with, unlike UK OPCs)
Actually - you may be right about prices just now... When I last had some work done in Cologne it was the same price in Euros as it was in GBP at Silverstone OPC, but the exchange rate was about 1.45 back then!
I faced this dilemma too when I came to the end of the warranty - replace with OPC servicing or go indie. I opted to take my chances and went to JZ Mactech - not exactly the cheapest but there was a degree of reassurance from the nearly new GT3's etc awaiting attention. People who even though their cars were still under manufacturer's warranty elected to go elsewhere!!

Depends where you live. I'd actually recommend Byfleet/Camtune, who used to be independent, but are now an OPC. As long as it's a quality recognised Indy, I woulddn't be too worried about it.
