Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well I thought I'd introduce myself as I've just gone and done it...... I've bought my first Porsche!
I was wondering if there was anywhere on here that gives new owners the basic do's & dont's of owning these wonderful machines? All suggestions, ideas, do's, dont's, must have's etc gratefully accepted as I want to get this right from the start.
Here's the info on my new baby -

I'm going to be using the car sparingly (up to 4000 miles a year) as I drive a company car and we also have the obligatory family tractor!
Hi,
Welcome to the forum, you will find an abundance of knowledge from the chaps on here and myself included...there are a few porsche specialists that drop on to the forums from time to time and can advise you of anything you are unsure of....that is of course unless Richard Hamilton does not beat us to it !
Just get it maintained every year or 12000 miles by a good porsche independant and you will be fine, where are you in the country as might be able to recommend someone to you ?
Enjoy your new car.

Hi and welcome to an excellent forum, you will enjoy the experience and get friendlt informative advice from here.
One from me ... in this weather leave her at home and take the tractor, much less painfull and potentialy costly.
Thanks for all the warm replies guys.
I live in Wrexham, North Wales and someone mentioned a good place to take the car for a service in Bolton, can't remember the name though but I've got it logged at home.
My
insurance
is up next month and I've got a quote through "Gocompare" with Kwitfit which looks very good to me, what do you think?
Fully comp - £750 excess - NCD protected - courtesy car - UK breakdown cover to inc. home start - legal cover & a FOC MOT - £309.
Here's a couple of very basic question to start with (did I mention that I didn't know much about running a Porsche
)-
1. Do I use std or premium petrol?
2. Is it a good thing to keep the car covered on the driveway, if so any advice on buying a cover?
3. How often should I start the car if it's not used during the week over winter?
Thanks in advance, now it's down to some serious catch up reading on the forum.
The place in Bolton would be Hartech. They maintain my car, and I also highly recommend them.
The general advice seems to be to go for premium fuel - and if you're only doing 4000 miles per year the extra cost will be minimal (plus you get better performance too).
Welcome to the forum!
Welcome. good choice.
1. Premium 97/99 ron, but it wouldnt' matter if you had to top it up with 95.
2. Mine lives outside permanently but does get driven every day. If you invest in a cover
make sure it is a breathable material or the damp will be held in.
High winds can cause scuffing to the paint work if a cover is not a really snug fit.
3. It's not advisable to just start your car on the drive and warm it up,
take it out for a good run instead. If you plan on not driving it regularly it would be
advisable to buy a trickle charger and keep the battery topped up otherwise you will
run into probs with dead/low battery, locked luggage compartment,
alarm going off. lots of people reccomend the CTEK charger.
Have fun

Welcome
For the
insurance
suggest you call admiral and disc their Multi car policies, I have all my cars covered with them and the premiums are quite attractive.
Does multicar make that much of a difference? How do you get around the problem of the
insurance
for the both cars not being in sync (for example, if one's got 6 months left, how do you arrange to have it moved over to Admiral as well)?
Firstly, welcome "the Gogg"
Congrats on the purchase of your 996 & welcome to the forum.
I have my 996 insured with admiral and it did work out the cheapest way for me to insure 3 cars (the 996, my daily commute & the family car)
If you have a car already covered with another company, they simply add this to the multicar policy from the existing renewal date. All the cars will then run side by side on the one policy & will all be renewable on the same renewal date.
The more cars added the cheaper each car (premium) gets!!
Hope that makes sense.
YOu also get a decent discount per car, even if that car is only insured for a short while towards the end.
I added my G40, which I don't intend to use for the last 3 weeks of my policy, and they discounted my wifes and my car by far more than it will cost me to insure the 3rd car.
The only issue is that they all run out at the same time, so I expect a hefty bill in Feb
