I'm currently running Pirelli System Corsa's on my GT3 as road tyres and find them very impressive as a road / wet track tyres.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just some 285-30-ZR18 Pzero Asimmetrico tyres off e-bay, £28 for a pair with >5mm of tread. I have Rossos on at the moment and wondered what the differences are?
Supplementary question.
Pirelli have been a long way down the preference list for both the Racing Puma and my current Jaguar.
Are they highly thought of for the 996? Do they suit the car?
I found the Rosso's already on my C4 when I bought it to be so noisy I changed them within 2 weeks for MPS2's which suit the 996 well.
I'm currently running Pirelli System Corsa's on my GT3 as road tyres and find them very impressive as a road / wet track tyres. Corsa Race are my dry trackday rubber of choice now - expensive but they last much better than the alternatives I've tried.
What is the correct size for the 996 18 inch carrera light weight alloys, I have 285s at the moment but 295 seems to have more brands available, will these fit??
285 is the OEM size for the 10" wheel. I have 295 on the 11" wheel.
According to
this
the range of rim widths for a 295 is 10" to 11.5", so you should be OK.
Whilst £28 for a pair of tyres is tremendous value if just pootling around town in dry weather, the Assimm's are no longer made in 285 so you will not get them anywhere. They were a favourite of mine for looks but rubbish for anything other than dry weather...when they were excellent.
Anyways 285's are the correct size for 18's yes. Rossos have had a better write up on 996's but on 993's not so, not sure why there would be any difference.
Thanks the Assims were a bargain at 28 quid (now in my garage), I'd just spent 700 quid on a full set of tyres and thought I'd see what I could get in ebay auction. Probably be a while before I put them on..hopefully they work out well,
I think he was pointing out that rubber deteriorates quite quickly over time and tyres that have been 'stored' in uncertain conditions are not really the ideal fitment for a 170 mph car.
Then again, I could have got it all wrong.
Personally I always make sure I buy fresh tyres (less than a year from manufucturing). The lifespan of a tyre is typicaly 4-5 years before the rubber starts to harden and cracks start appearing
