I used a topside oil changer across three boats with good dipstick access.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

VACUME OIL CHANGE???
Does anyone use a vacume pump to change the oil in a 987.2 (or any other)?
In some cars people claim it can actually get more oil out.
Is there even a way?
Can a tube down the filler get to the bottom of the sump?
No, there's no way to get a hose down there. With almost two gallons of oil in the sump, I'm not worried about the little still remaining. It is very easy to drain the oil. The tough part is getting at and changing the oil filter. And you'd still need to do that regardless.
I’ve had great luck with the vacuum pump on our Honda minivan, but you need the straight shot down the dipstick tube for it to work, not possible on the mid engine Porsches…..

I used a topside oil changer across three boats with good dipstick access. It did what I would call an adequate job but I was never convinced it drained more than a
plug
out overnight and a catch pan which was not possible with any of the boats.
Besides not being possible, there have been a number of cases, especially with the cheaper extractors, where the tube breaks off at the bottom and then you have a nice floating piece of solid debris to take out your motor.
When I first got my used 2014
981
this summer, I was getting a oil high reading after driving for like 15 min. Like an idiot I thought I could stick a tube down the oil filler and suck oil out. Nope not gonna happen. I had to remove the filter and dump oil 5 times to get it to read at the high green. That sucked and what a mess. But she’s all good now. My oil change
next
summer I will be under fill a bit for sure.
You guys are making me sad.
Guess instead of a vacume oil Chang system, i need to upgrade the old pan to 8+ quarts.
Of course, I still need to get the vacume system for the MBs.
More tools!!!
I use an extraction system for my Benzes. Works great and gets all the oil. And with filters on top as well, you don’t have to lift the car or get dirty.
Had this same issue the first time I changed the oil (though I used the drain
plug
to remove the oil rather than the filter). Since then, I've always measured what I got out and put the same back plus 1/3 liter to account for oil trapped in the filter. Usually, have to top off a little bit more after that. Where the "missing" oil disappears to is always a mystery - maybe coating the inside of my oil drain pan.
BTW - this is the best oil drain pan I've ever used. I've had one for as long as I can remember.

Vacuum oil extraction works on some engines. The only way to know for sure is to suck out all the oil, then pull the drain
plug
to verify none remains.
Well, the drain pan in on the way and the filter gasket and sealing ring and filter wrench already arrived.
Maybe when I get a vacuum system for the MBs I will see if I can fish in a tube on the
cayman
,
What could go wrong???? Well you could get your tube caught in one of those narrow passages that let the oil return to the sump. That would be a headache to fix.
I guess the question is if anyone has actually had any of the scary problems assumed.
Has anyone been successful (even if it leaves a few qts.)
Early engines had a dipstick. Does the hole or tube still exist?
