I changed all the shockers for standard ones, which made it slightly more compliant, but it wasn't a complete solution.

in my previous C2 with the same suspension I ran 32F and 38R which is quite a bit less than the standard 36F/44R

I'm running 36/44 on P Zero's N4 - won't the incorrect pressure result in damage to the tyres?

I ran the lower pressure on brand new PS2's for over 10K miles on my prev C2 and there was plenty of tread left on them when I sold it I also run lower pressures on my current car and have had no problems, 36/44 even on standard suspension is way to harsh for me..

If you have M030 Sports suspension (check the option sticker for 030) it can be quite a harsh ride on all but the smoothest of roads.

I'll check tonight to see what colour my suspension are - I'm not quite sure how to see what I've got but I'll try and look through the wheel arch once I get the car on full lock !

Suggestion
Run 33 and 39 psi with x74 suspension kit fitted and i do notice the ride being harsher if the tyre pressures are run higher, but i don't run those pressures for the softer ride, that's just what the car prefers

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello everybody,
My name is Steve and I drive a 996 C2 with GT3 Kit (1998) :bye: - stumbled upon this forum when trying to find a resolution to an issue, hoping you guys maybe able to help
Having just acquired my car I'm finding the ride is very harsh - in that I can feel every bump in the road and when I go over rather rough patch of road the car rattles on the inside.
My previous 996 didn't do this but that was not on lower suspension.
So my question is (as hard as internet diagnostics are) - does this sound like something iffy with the suspension or is this just a charateristic of sports suspension?
If I wanted to revert to standard suspension is that costly?
Thanks in advance - hopefully when my knowledge builds up I'll be able to help others in their questions
If you have M030 Sports suspension (check the option sticker for 030) it can be quite a harsh ride on all but the smoothest of roads. I had it on my 1998 C2. I changed all the shockers for standard ones, which made it slightly more compliant, but it wasn't a complete solution. You would need to change the springs and anti-roll bars too, to convert it back to standard, which would also raise the ride height.
It would be a very expensive job. Curiously, Porsche do the M030 suspension retrofit kit for about £600, but to buy the standard parts separately would cost well over twice that. If you really wanted to go that way, best bet would be to find someone who has retrofitted M030 and wants to sell the standard parts.
Alternatively, a coilover suspension setup with adjustable shockers might be the way to go, as you could set it up the way you like it. One or two guys on here have done it and might be able to comment, although they did it more for track work than comfort.
Thanks Richard, that's really useful. :thumb:
Bit disappointed that it will cost so much to go back to non-m030.
The handling feels much improved compared to my previous 996 and the car sit's better, but I do miss the less 'extreme' nature of the drive. By having the current springs it doesn't really feel like a daily driver, more of a weekend toy which I wasn't really looking for.
When I test drove the car up some A roads it wasn't too bad, but on some of the roads near me it's enough to make my teeth jangle !
what tyre pressure are you running? in my previous C2 with the same suspension I ran 32F and 38R which is quite a bit less than the standard 36F/44R
This may help..

Hi,
What suspension are you actually running on? It may just be lowering springs on original dampers in which case the ride will never be ideal. If it is M030 then it may need a good geo. Can you post up exactly what suspension your car has?
I'm afraid with increased fast road performance you will suffer reduced ride comfort on our cr@p roads. Mine is an absolute ***** on London roads and such but pure bliss on anything smoother... :thumb:

Saying that, it's still a harsh ride and i, like smj, have had no problems with tyre wear at those psi
Can you see what colour your shocks are, might give us a clue to your suspension if you don't know
Thanks guys.
My car doesn't have the M030 on the option code per se - but I think the GT3 kit was an after-factory-fit, so it may be m030.
I'll check tonight to see what colour my suspension are - I'm not quite sure how to see what I've got but I'll try and look through the wheel arch once I get the car on full lock !
Cheers
Steve
