Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check other than feel' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check clutch and brakes' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Remember though, that there are a lot of checks that are performed in the CPO process including checking the clutch and brakes.

Suggestion
The labor involved with an accurate checking the life of the clutch by dropping the motor and inspecting is cost/labor prohibitive.

Suggestion
Most here didn't even need to use the CPO but it is worth the piece of mind "in case" anything major goes.

Much easier if you are buying a used car from a private party and use the dealer as a pass through in which they CPO it and you buy it from them at the price agreed upon between you and the private party.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone here purchase a car from a private party and then pay the Porsche dealer to CPO the car? Is this even possible as an alternative to the 3rd party extended warranty. I have seen posts to this effect but no specific data on how to.
Also, does anyone know the age and mileage limitations for doing so.
Thanks in advance.
I don't believe its possible. If you know your dealer REALLY well, I have heard that you can in essence sell the car back to the dealer, have them CPO it and then they sell it back to you... Dealers don't do this for just anyone.
I think it would be good to get a consensus on whether the CPO warranty is worth the $$...it appears to be a highly debated issue on other threads. Who has had a positive experience with the CPO warranty and what kind of issues have been covered?
Think of it as insurance. Most here didn't even need to use the CPO but it is worth the piece of mind "in case" anything major goes. And if it does, it will happen before 6yr or 100K miles (whichever comes first). At that point the $1500 would have been well worth the piece of mind (or actually usage of it).
yes, I've read about this, and didn't really understand how this works. supposedly you sold your 996 back to the dealer $50k. the dealer then sells it back to you for $53k. you will then have to cough up $3k + $4k tax = $7k, $7k is a little steep !!
Not really. You do it as a "pass-thru" to avoid paying the tax twice. Much easier if you are buying a used car from a private party and use the dealer as a pass through in which they CPO it and you buy it from them at the price agreed upon between you and the private party. Not sure about post hoc transactions and the legality of putting down the same car as the trade-in and the car purchased so you get credit for the tax (ie, buy at the same price as the sell so you owe ZERO tax, excpet in some states don't have tex credit on trade-in).
I did this with mine, sort of. I found my 2003 C2 at a private dealer and I contacted my local dealership (from whom I had bought 2 audis from) and they agreed to purchase it from the private dealer, mark up the price for the CPO (3 Grand) + the cost of 2 new tires and a battery. Also, it did have the balance of the factory warranty as well. I did it for assurance, and have had no problems to speak of yet. Hopefully I won't need it, but it makes me sleep better!!! Hope this helps.

If you are looking at a car with 1-2 years left on the warranty, I think you are fine to go without CPO. Remember though, that there are a lot of checks that are performed in the CPO process including checking the clutch and brakes. As I recall, both linings have to be (40% or 50%?) or higher. If not, they have to be replaced. 3 of the cars I looked at had clutches and brakes replaced in the CPO process.
I am still under factory warranty, but CPO has already paid off for me. I made the deal to have my car CPO fro $2K before they actually did it. In the inspection they had to replace one of the front air ducts, the front brakes, the clutch and the tires. I have the receipt on all the work that was done. Since there was not a stamp for the 30K service in the book, even though the know it was done, they still had to do a full 30K service for CPO. It cost them a lot more to go through CPO than what they sold it for. The clutch was $1100, the tires were $900 and the 30K service was $800. The total shop bill when everything was done was around $3800. It basically ate all all of the profit so that when I asked for a set of Euro clear corners (about $28) thrown in, the best they would do was selling them at cost. If the car was not CPO, the majority of these costs have come out of my pocket.
Clutch is NOT something checked other than feel. The labor involved with an accurate checking the life of the clutch by dropping the motor and inspecting is cost/labor prohibitive.
I bought a CPO car...a 99 C4 Cab that was impeccable. I bought it with 47k miles 2 years ago. Well in the 2 years I owned it it had NO RMS, but all this was covered under my CPO warranty....New engine, new radiator fans, new thermostat, new top latch, new top trim, new coolant hose under engine, new 02 sensors, new MAF sensor, new coolant tank, new clamshell latch, new exhaust gaskets, new battery, 4 new tires, I am sure there is more, but thats the skinny, probably about 30k list for parts and labor. I got them to go below private party blue book price by a about 2k so i figured I payed blue book and got the warranty free....I would have been sickened with all these issues not under warranty on what looked like a perfect car...Go for the CPO....repairs are too expensive and these cars can have catastrophic failures. You can go to your local dealer, tell them you plan on servicing the car there if they buy the car and CPO it, then sell it to you....Now realize, not EVERY car will qualify...it must have less than 50k miles, NEVER been in an accident, and pass their (BS) visual inspections....
