I am trying to help a friend switch the speedo and gauges from metric to english on a 996. Everything else is in english, is there a way to do it, or does the scan tool need to be hooked up? TIA

If I remember correctly, the manual says how to switch the digital readouts from Metric (Canadian) to English (US) and vice versa. It's done using the tripmeter ****. I can post the details once I get home in a few hours.

Dunno what year your friend's 996 is, but I assume you mean the digital speedo, temp, etc...right? The rotary **** on the upper left corner of the tach lets you switch the speedo & odometer between US and Metric; just turn it to the left and hold for a few seconds. You can also use the computer to switch the outside temp, speedo, etc. Use the small lower left stalk to access the "set" menu in your display.

Actually, as I recall, it's the **** on the right of the tach that does it, but you do hold it to the left for a couple of seconds.
