I've read about over revs and hitting the limiter, never thought I'd be asking about possibly voiding any warranty issues, but little paranoia has crept in. Just had the limiter kick in 1st gear, not 100% sure I've got a good handle on possible damage and or Porsche's view.
It's for sure the first and only time it's been hit, in 1st gear am I seeing (on Gator's chart) that it is at the lower end of RPM and with the limiter kicking in, it is in fact there to protect engine damage, and can I assume it did it's job? biggest concern obviously, insight please.
Never have missed a downshift so if you are going to hit the post, is this the place to do it? thanks and any assurance would be cool, feeling shitty..
What you seem to be talking about is simply being in 1st gear and revving until hitting the limiter, which is not the same as over revving.
Missing a gear (i.e. going from fifth to second instead of fourth) is different and cancels out the electrnic limiter as it mechanically overrides it and there is nothing teh electronics can do to counter the sudden unwanted increase in rpm, if that makes sense.
The insidious thing about what you did is the fact that there will be no symptoms. The engine will run perfectly. You might notice that the engine gets cold on cold days when it isn't running, and that the outside of your windshield will now get wet when it rains and the car is outside. And rest assured, after about 20 years or 300,000 miles you might need a valve job.
Yes that's what happened, kinda thought the two different ways to get there were both considered over revving.
Makes sense, knew that your not protected missing a shift, thanks...
No symptoms, clean bill of health, therefore no H1N1 to worry bout....
Haven't noticed the other scenarios you mentioned, will be on the lookout, "The engine willl run perfectly", makes me feel better, will deal with the valve job in the distant future. Thanks for the time..
