Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mines got ‘spider corrosion’ I could rub it down I guess but new ones ex ‘design911’ aren’t crazy money about £18. It’s the small metal strip directly behind the door, black colour. It is shown in the attached image ‘toothed’ looking piece at the bottom left of the image no 14. Or I could rub it down and delicately paint. Part number 14 picture set 811-13 https://www.design911.com/uploads/images/diagrams/diagrams/986_2004_8_11_811-13.jpg?width=545&height=628 Can’t upload a picture. Can anyone help me on this one?

POST 3Original post

#14 part is totally visible. iirc #16 pops off to expose two rivets that hold #14 to the chassis. riviets need to be drilled out to replace #14. and new rivets when done.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Because it looks like you have to slide “16” off to get at the “14” which gets riveted in place as per the diagram on the design911 website. My concern is getting the cover plate “16” off without damaging the fixing points.

POST 5Original post

to repeat - 16 pops off. the assembly is designed to connect the porsche roof rack system.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone popped this item “16” plastic trim cover off to get at the rivets without destroying it?. Is it possible to get it off and replace it without buying a replacement??

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 667949

So it sounds like you’ve done this job. Did you get 16 off without problems and was it re-usable or did you have to buy and paint a new one?

POST 9Original post

It's been a while since I pulled them off, but I don't remember it being difficult. Pretty sure I carefully pried it slightly inward, then up with a plastic trim tool. Note the small lip on 16 that tucks under 14.
