Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

did just that, scuffed and cleaned the muffler and sprayed away.

I blasted them, and then used regular primer (mistake), then the high heat stuff on top.

Suggestion
I would think that would crack & flake even after cleaning + sanding down the tips beforehand.

Also did you guys just use regular black matte spray paint?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would like to paint the bottom (exposed) portion of my
cayman s
mufflers with some of this barbecue grill flat black (1000 degrees).
Tell me, : will it peel off quickly?? Is it worth the effort to do so? Any better recommendations, other than just leave it alone. I always hated it when I seen a nice car and then seeing that butt ugly dull aluminum mufflers..
again: Thank you
Jocko,
I have a friend on here (cheerio) that did his
Borla exhaust
tips in Black. However, I am not sure if he painted or powder-coated them. His seems to have held up nicely.
Maybe he will chime in or you can shoot him a PM.
Good Luck,
I painted mine was some high temp gloss paint and it turned out amazing. I do drive in the rain and I only cleaned the
exhaust
before painting rather than scuffing it up with some sand paper so the paint has come off in places.
I have painted a lot of
exhaust
tips and cans in the past.
All I have ever done was to clean them, scuff them with Scotchbrite, wipe with alcohol, and spray. Never had a problem and they looked great.
This last time I screwed up though. I blasted them, and then used regular primer (mistake), then the high heat stuff on top. The primer didn't stick and I am starting to peel in places. Should have stuck to my old simple ways.
I am going to redo them when I get some time. For your instance I would say, scuff em and spray em.
did just that, scuffed and cleaned the muffler and sprayed away. they look great, actually hard to even see them now. thanks guys..
I ordered a set of carbon rear diffusers from Motor lux. Hope I don't regret dong this. Lot of money that basicaly does nothing..
Do you mean
ceramic coating
?
I'm guessing that at ~$70 a muffler to have them coated, and it being just a appearance mod, the $5.00 can of spray paint would be a more frugal choice.
I want to buy the RS60 tips and perform this painted tip mod. Does anyone have any pictures of the tips they've painted? Also did you guys just use regular black matte spray paint? I would think that would crack & flake even after cleaning + sanding down the tips beforehand.
VHT makes a line of paint/coatings good up to 2000F in some instances, specifically for exhausts and
exhaust
headers
. A good automotive shop should have some. About $10 a can.
This is the stuff to use. I have painted a motorcycle muffler on my '80
Yamaha
SR 500, which gets extremely hot, and it looks great after a year. You can buy it in flat black at almost any mainstream auto parts store like O'Reilly's, Napa, etc. I didn't like the bright inside of the rectangular
exhaust
tip on my new
Cayman
, so I cleaned it with acetone, taped off the outer rim and shot it. Polished the outer rim with 0000 steel wool. Looks great!
Of course it does, just in case some complete nincompoop would slop some black lacquer on there with a toilet mop. It's all about liability issues these days.....and saving the lame of intellect from themselves....or at least attempting to while CYA at the same time.
