I've decided it's time to change my brake pads.
If I go to the dealer, I'm sure it's gonna run over a grand for fronts and backs, cuz they're gonna replace the rotors too.
From looking at the Articles section on this site, I've decided I'm gonna do this one myself.
My question is, should I replace the rotors too?
Here are what they look like:
I got just under 30K miles on the car. While I don't think the rotors are gonna last to the next pad change (presumably at 60K) I'm pretty sure at my current rate (just street use) it's gonna be a few more years til I actually need rotors.
Also, unrelated, but does anyones (or everyones) lower rocker panel look like mine?
Have you done your PP research? If not I suggest the following (only a small sample) to help.

Nothing strange about your rocker panel that I see.
From what I can see in your pics, you don't have many cracks, so what matters is the rotor thickness - if you have more than 2 mm wear (total thickness), then they are supposed to be replaced (you may need rotor calipers to measure, but you can get an idea by how much lip there is around the edge of the rotor).
I changed mine at 32K miles, which included some 20 or so track days. They are pretty easy to change yourself, if you are reasonably handy with a wrench.
(By the way, changing the pads is even easier than changing the rotors, if you want to do that yourself)
My lower rocker panels have that pebble finish also.
Thanks guys.
I got a buddy with a lift and all the tools, so I guess I wont be technically doing it myself, but he only charges a case of beer.
If you do change the rotors, make sure you use new caliper bolts - many people re-use them, but technically, they're supposed to be one-use only... they're only about $3 each.

I'm not sure why you want to change the rotors, I dont see a problem in them. Then again, I'm no expert!
You may want to consider Giro-Disc, they last longer than OEM and replacement cost after the initial purchase is cheaper. I have a set on the front of my GT3 and so far I've been really happy with them.

Nitro,
neither do I and neither am I
just wanted to get a consensous. Just gotta bust out a set of calipers to be sure.
Polar,
thanks, will definitely look into it. I'm all about better than OEM, especially when the OEM is as good as it is!
Good point by Beez - If you do decide to replace them yourself, you will find that the original bolts require a 10 mm hex key, and the new bolts from Porsche (e.g. Suncoast) require T-55 star (torx) sockets - so you will need both types of sockets available.
