Can someone please describe the correct procedure for removing and replacing the coolant reservoir tank on a 2001 996....its a very tight fit!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can someone please describe the correct procedure for removing and replacing the coolant reservoir tank on a 2001 996....its a very tight fit! Does the engine have to be dropped a little to get the tank to slide into place? Thank you. Mitch Williams

POST 2Original post

Find the replacement procedure at the following link: http://basketcasemotorsports.bravehost.com/Tank.htm Nick

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Nick....any reason a 2001 would be different than the 99? My tank appears to be slightly larger (old one and new one) than the ones in the photos. Very tight fit.

POST 4Original post

They are all a tight fit. Porsche has changed tanks 4 or 5 times and the later model (3.6 liter) cars are different still. The correct part number for a MY01 Carrera is: 996 106 157 03 Water Reservoir - retail price - $111.87 (as of Oct 2005). Be sure and check you cap also. If the part number (on top) does not end in 01 then replace it. About $12.

POST 5Original post

the link to replace the tank is down, any body know of an alternate source?
