Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The Porsche GT4 has always been a dream car for me and was going back and forth about the raw experience of the 981 GT4 and the more refined 718. After reading many posts by TDT, ChrisW, Twinfan and others on here I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a lovely 718 GT4. second pic is actually from the previous owner (I just think the car looks great in it). The car has absolutely blown me away with it's amazing chassis and handling. Looking forward to many miles of enjoyable driving and potentially some track time in the future. POST 2Original post

Nice one - enjoy! They're cracking cars, even if I am biased...

POST 3Original post

They are sensational looking cars and in Gentian really stand out, I also had one in Gentian a lovely car you will have a lot of fun and not regret a minute. You should try it on track at least once to see what it is capable of, it will surprise you they are terrific . Enjoy

POST 4Original post

I think the GT4 is the best all-rounder sports car that Porsche make. This car looks lovely and I'm please that you are enjoying it They just get better and better with familiarity ...

POST 5Original post

Stunning, one of the best colours in my eyes as well. Enjoy. Try and get it on track if you can to properly stretch its legs.

POST 6Original post

Congrats Paul, hope you really enjoy it, and happy to have helped. See you around hopefully.

POST 8Original post

After lurking on all the GT4 threads following ownership of a 981 BGTS, 981 CGTS, 991.1 GTS I returned to the Cayman platform and couldn’t be happier.

POST 10Original post

Yes, there were 2 718 GT4’s one manual one PDK a 981 GT4 and a manual Spyder, PDK was my choice with all the options I’d become accustomed to. My 981CGTS was PDK with Buckets and X73 suspension and I missed the overall experience of it the 718 GT4 really delivers.

POST 11Original post

Very good. I also had PDK 981 CGTS with X73 and PTV in a former life, one of the first in the country at the time I understand. Loved it.

BeaverGT4 said: After lurking on all the GT4 threads following ownership of a 981 BGTS, 981 CGTS, 991.1 GTS I returned to the Cayman platform and couldn’t be happier. Lovely car, congrats! Quick question, how would you compare the straight line performance of the 981 GTS vs the 991.1 GTS and now your 718 GT4? I understand it's 340 vs 430 vs 420. Wondering if the last two are significantly quicker than the 981?

POST 13Original post

My views aren’t based on use of a stop watch just butt feel and a glance at the speedo. I always thought the 991.1 GTS should move things on from the 981 GTS but for most of the time they felt the same to me, perhaps the 911 offered just a little more if you were already at 50+ and in sport plus but it was slight. I’ve only covered a few miles with the GT4 but in any given scenario it’s effortlessly much quicker than the previous 2.

Edited by PaulJ_85 on Sunday 12th March 23:09 Congrats on your new purchase, it looks like it may be my fathers old GT4! (he Purchased it via Porsche Bolton and then sold it roughly 2 years ago via Porsche Mid Sussex). Looks like a leather steering-wheel which would give it away as I don't think many of them have it. Is it on a "69" plate by any chance?? Pics below of the Car when it was in my fathers ownership on his private plate (if it is the same car!)

POST 15Original post

Congratulations! If that's the car that was for sale in Canterbury then it looked lovely when I saw it. Have fun and welcome to the club!

Interesting, thanks I've been surprised by a few of the drag races involving the 4.0 from the GTS/GT4. It does seem like a very potent unit.

Congrats on finally doing it. Can’t wait to see it in the flesh.

PaulJ_85 said: Small world! It is indeed that car! It's an absolutely fantastic spec - your father picked some great options on it! Just to add to this cars history, it was this very car sat in Mid-Sussex's showroom in Spring 2021 which prompted me to order my GT4. I'd gone to Mid-Sussex to look at a lightly used 991.2 GTS, but as much as I was drawn by the Miami GTS, my head kept looking over at the GT4 on the opposite side of the showroom by the entrance (It was also roped off). I enquired about ordering one, and was rudely told no, which is when I found out how terrible Mid-Sussex are as an OPC. From memory it was up £96k, and it had a personal plate on it starting R5, but the leather wheel stuck out to me which is why I remember it. I think the person who owned it now has a 4RS.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That would be the one. Thankfully paid a lot less (perk of buying a car in winter before demand ramps up in spring / summer). I prefer the look of the alcantara wheel - however I'm quite into sim racing (and the wheel rims I had with Alcantara started looking a bit tatty after a few years) - so the leather wheel actually appealed to me. Maybe not such a problem on these cars - but it definitely didn't put me off buying it.

Easy to clean up and make as new again

It's designed, and is, a very hard wearing artifical material. It doesn't wear out after a year ot two's use!

POST 26Original post

Agreed, I wet it with a spray-on upholstery cleaner and dry it off with a microfibre cloth which I keep rising until there are no more bubbles ... then with a clean towel and leave to dry. I have a 100% "like-new" success rate after 30,000 miles and no driving gloves ... it works for me

POST 29Original post

I think I've used a small amount of clothes washing liquid or liquid hand soap in the past. Any mild soap should do it.

POST 30Original post

A good brush with medium bristles also gets it back to looking like new

At first after cleaning you can feel the pile of the alcantara is a little hard ... rather like a very fresh towel ... but it very rapidly softens back to as new.
