I am pleased to report that Porsche AG has completed my GT-3 last Friday November 22nd. Porsche projects that they will be able to deliver your new GT-3 around January 5th. See below built sheet, which also shows vehicle status.

POST 2Original post

Looks like an awesome build. About six more weeks to go. I predict the holidays will pass slowly for you this year! Please post some pics when it arrives.

POST 3Original post

I'm surprised that you didn't get the free larger fuel tank.

POST 4Original post

Thank you. I will post pictures when I get it. Can't wait.

POST 5Original post

I am bothered a little bit by this as well. I did initially miss adding it to the order but 3 weeks later I did notice it was a free upgrade it, so I emailed them and asked them to include it, and they said they would make the change but when I got this last update it was not there. I did discuss it with the dealership and they said they can probably flag the car and retrofit it but this means it will probably be delayed for 4 to 8 more weeks, so I am opting to just live without it for the moment. Maybe I can ask them to retrofit it here at the dealership after the car arrives (not sure if that is easy or not). It is not really a big deal but it would have been nice to have it, since it was a free upgrade. I think the whole ordering process went so fast (less than 2 months from order to build), so somehow the change request fell through the cracks, so I am not complaining about it too much, since these guys always took care of me and as you can see they got me a GT3 in a record time.

POST 7Original post

Hi bibz I still have not taken position of my GT3. It has already arrived San Diego port last week and PDI has been completed. I am told It will arrive Portland at the end of this week. Can't wait! I will post pictures as soon as I bring her home. Yes I am planning to use my GT3 as a DD for at least the next couple of months. I had an unfortunate accident couple of weeks ago while driving my 911 C4S on black ice. My first accident in 31 years . So I will be using my GT3 as DD until at least my 911 C4S get fixed. I am thinking about installing Michelin Super Sport tires while using it as a DD, as it rains a lot where I live. Have not made up my mind yet. Will be back with some pictures soon.

POST 8Original post

As promised I am including some photos of my new baby. I got it yesterday and I have put couple of hundred of very exciting miles today. It is a blast to drive. Here are few pictures. Only disappointment is the lack of Bluetooth with PCM. Porsche really missed up this one. Hopefully there will be a fix.

POST 12Original post

DROOL Like Gregory Hines playing a eunuch in History of the World

POST 13Original post

The car looks awesome! I am curious about the lack of bluetooth. I thought bluetooth was standard with PCM....and has been on all 911's for several years.

POST 14Original post

AFAIK there is a separate free option that needed to be picked in order to get bluetooth. A dealer/sponsor posted that on RL.

POST 15Original post

Very nice GT3! Congrats! Saw a yellow one at a local dealership with matching PTS calipers. As it had a sold sign on it, I hope the new owner doesn't mind a bit of drool.....

POST 16Original post

Looks awesome! Can you do a side-by-side comparison in how it drives compared to the 981 Boxster parked next to it? Or I have to do a roadtrip to Clark County

POST 17Original post

First of all congratulations! I hope it is not a garage queen, unless you want to sell it to me in 3 or 4 years. Great looking car! Go out and drive it , on the street and in the track. Please let us know how it drives. I love the red GT3!

POST 18Original post

Very nice...I especially like the black and grey accent bits against the red.

POST 19Original post

Thanks to all of you for the nice words. Really appreciate all the comments. Thank you. I have added almost 300 miles in the last couple of days. Mainly driving on country roads. It truly has been a blast. The PDK on this car is so much better than the one I have on my 911 4S. I am a big manual fan and most of my other cars are all manual, and I am happy to report I did not miss the manual so much on this car. The fact you are able to shift to neutral by holding both pedals, combined with correcting the direction of shifting using the stick, and the lightening shifts make this box a blast to use. I honestly did not miss the manual on this car while I did on my 2013 911 4S. It is amazing how small changes can change your perception. The steering on this car is also so much better than the ones on the 911 4S, which has more weight than standard 911 2S or the 981 Boxster steering. I had to remind myself few times that this is an electrical box! It really is as good as my Evora S which in my opinion has one of the best steerings anywhere. The 4 wheel steering take a little time to get used to. It really took me by surprise the 1st time I had a quick left hand turn. It reduces your steering effort and tighten your line considerably. Almost feels like cheating while you are turning quick. At first I hated it, but then I started appreciating this nifty tool, then I forgot it was there. Really it has been pleasure to drive this car. It is a little harsher on the road than the 911 4S or the 981 Boxster S, and I suspect most of this harshness is coming from the CUP Tires. It will be interesting how it feels after I fit the Michelin PA4's. The weather has been Sunny in the Portland-Vancouver area and is supposed to hold for few more days which will allow me to put few more miles on this car, but I am nervous driving this car on Cup tires during heavy down pours which is very common in the Northwest, thus the PA4's which I will use later on my 911 4S, but it will allow me to play with my new toy much longer. I am still trying to get used to this car, so if I am asked today how it is compared to the 981 Boxster S, I would rather defer the answer till I put few more miles on this beast. The 981 is such a sweet machine that I felt so comfortable driving very very hard and pushing it to its limits after only few miles, even though I bought it in the Middle of the rain season and for that matter the 911 4S is not that much behind the Boxster in terms of getting comfortable in and drive quickly very hard, although there are not that many cars out there who can turn (corner) better than this 981 Boxster. This GT3 is very close if not better but the GT3 in comparison has so much higher limits and power and you really feel nervous approaching it's limits. Perhaps feeling a little nervous is because the limits and power on the GT3 are so much higher and there is no way to experience or even approaching any of these unless you are on the track, which i am planning to do after the rain season. However the addictive acceleration and engine noise and especially on straight line acceleration run is where this beast shine over the 991 4S or the 981 Boxster S. You really feel very comfortable doing so all day long and the smile gets tattooed on your face. The 981 Boxster S in comparison feels really anemic. Imagine placing this engine in 981 Boxster S. Finally This missing bluetooth issue really came as surprise to me and also to Porsche dealership. At the time I ordered my car there was not any indication it was not included part of the pcm & nav option, then at a later date Porsche added to their build Configurator a separate no charge bluetooth option. When I ordered my car I can only pick option 619 which is mobile phone preparation, but I did not select it, since it uses SAP versus HFP protocol which would not work with iphone 5S anyway. So if I or the Porsche dealership were aware of the missing bluetooth module, there was really no way to add it at the time I ordered the car. Porsche later discovered the issue and added a separate option to include it. The good news the Dealership promised to order the bluetooth module and install it for me at no charge. Hopefully I did not bore you with all of this, but I plan to give you more detailed write up about my impressions of driving this beast for few more weeks, and especially on the rain.

POST 21Original post

Just wanted to give you an update. As I indicated earlier I picked my red baby couple of weeks ago and fortunately the weather in Portland has been decent which allowed me to spend more time with car and enjoy for a little while before the rain started again. So far my expression All I can is....what a car! It is like a slot car, so agile and not bad at all driving around town. I was able to take it on couple of long trips on 2-lane winding roads on country side outside Portland. What an experience! Really a fun car. I have been worried about the electrical steering & the PDK since most of my cars are all manual cars, but I discovered none of these concerns are an issue with this car. The steering feels pretty close to my Lotus Evora, which has one of the best steering anywhere, and I never missed the manual box driving the car. It is really different and much better than my 2013 911 4s and the ability to shift into neutral by holding both paddle shifters, gives you the feel of driving a manual. All and all I have been very pleased. I had mixed impressions Aboud driving on the rain. When the roads are wet and temperature is higher than 48 F, it is not really too bad and feel very balanced and secure. However driving it during down pours and temperatures close to 40F is right down scary. The back wants to come loose with the slightest throttle application. It is like driving on ice, and the psm does very little and has a delayed response. So if you are not very careful, you will end up in a ditch. I only have few complaints so far. The missing bluetooth which I mentioned earlier is kind of annoying and only became aware of it after the car was about to ship, but my dealer is working on adding it free of charge. I also have an alert message popping randomly indicating the lift system is malfunctioning, but it appears to be working ok. Anyway I have dropped yesterday at the dealership to diagnose and fix the alert message, and add also the Bluetooth. I am also having them installing Michelin PA4 tires, as the Michelin Cups are really scary on cold wet streets, and I want to be able to enjoy the car until I get the chance to take it to the track in April. I was supposed to get the car back today but Porsche service indicating there is a recall that just was issued by Porsche and they would like to keep the Car till Monday to take of it. I tried to inquire about the recall but the service clerk was not sure, so I will find out more on Monday. Once I get the chance to drive the car on the new Michelin PA4, I will give you my impressions Finally I would like to share couple of pictures with you Mark

POST 23Original post

The car looks awesome...it'll be interesting to hear ho you like it with the PA4s. Personally, I think a GT3 with winter tires on it would be a heap of fun in snow.

POST 24Original post

Can you tell us about the garage floor? RaceDeck Tuffs version?

POST 25Original post

Man I am so jealous! That's a beautiful car, congrats!

POST 27Original post

How can anything about a GT3 be boring. Please bore us as much as you can. I want pictures, stories and lots about your tracking the car. And some videos would be appreciated as well.

POST 28Original post

Thanks to all of you for the very kind words. I will keep posting updates as I learn more about the car. As I mentioned earlier I am installing winter Michelin PA4 tires, which I did last Friday. So I only had them for less than a week, but all I can tell you, they are very very impressive. The dry grip is surprisingly very good and especially on very cold pavement, but the wet grip is even more impressive. I have to remind myself I am driving in the winter. In addition the tires managed to improve the ride quality of the GT3 significantly. It is actually now very pleasant daily driver cruiser. It has a similar ride quality now to my Carrera 4S which is excellent. I am actually enjoying these tires more than the CUP tires on the street as they are much more comfortable and the limits now are more approachable than the insane grip of the CUP tires. I am sure once the temperature warms up, I will be looking forward to the CUP tires and their insane grip. Said that we had a storm snow in Portland and I decided to put these tires to the test and cruise with them around town. Let's put it this way they have exceeded my expectations, and I will leave you with few pictures. The car was so stable at normal posted speeds and while others slipped and slid, this GT3 never had any trouble.

POST 29Original post

I used Armstrong commercial vinyl floor tiles From Low's. They come in multiple colors, so I purchased white & black tiles. These tiles are glued to the garage floor. I did rent a concrete saw and skimmed the surface to remove high points. These tiles work well with small uneven surfaces as they are fixable so you will only need minimum prep work. I also added five layers of wax to the tiles after I was done which will add a nice shine and protect the floor. They are very easy to clean with a wet mob and they still look great after 3 years of hard use. Highly recommended and sure make your garage look like a show room. In my case I also added floor to ceiling cabinets and stainless steel work bench, a Fridge, a 50" flat screen TV, etc. In other words if I am in trouble with wife and being placed in the doghouse, I can last there for years!!!

POST 30Original post

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts! It is especially interesting to me as i plan on replacing my 981 BS with a 991 GT3 at some point... so for a 365-day DD usage... your experience with both cars and with different tyres is more than appreciated! Eh eh and love the color!

POST 31Original post

Did you get a letter from dealership regarding the fire issues with the 991 GT3?

POST 32Original post

Yes I did. I am sure you are probably referring to the second letter which was issued today. See a copy below Dear Mr. Qandil: As advised previously, engineers at Porsche AG have been conducting technical analysis of the Porsche 911 GT3 engine in order to find a solution to the problem which led us to recommend you stop driving your car. This analysis is now completed, and we would like to inform you about the cause of the problem and the planned remedial actions. As already communicated, two vehicles in Europe suffered engine damage, causing the vehicles to catch fire. Analysis has revealed that in both cases the engine damage was caused by a loosened piston rod screw connection which damaged the crankcase. In order to avoid this in the future, an optimized screw connection is currently being tested. For the final validation of this solution, Porsche AG is currently carrying out extensive tests. At Porsche we are rigorous when implementing an engineering solution, therefore, after the successful testing and validation we will be installing new engines with optimized piston rod screw connections in all 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 vehicles. Due to the complexity of the necessary arrangement, we are currently unable to provide you with a specific workshop date for your Porsche 911 GT3. We will be arranging an appointment with you individually, as soon as the logistics planning is finalized. We will be providing you with additional information within the next three weeks. We continue to remain committed to supporting your individual needs during this time. Your personal contact person will make contact with you within the next days to discuss individual solutions to bridge the gap until you are reunited with your Porsche 911 GT3. Thank you very much for your patience and your loyalty to the Porsche brand. Kind regards, Tim Quinn Vice President, AfterSales Porsche Cars North America, Inc.
