Also might be worth checking directly with Girodisc or if you have a friendly local Indy as they now have a version with black hats and curved curves for Porsche and BMW … so look very similar to PFC.

NB, PFC hats don’t actually have the holes, so use of the wheel bolt hole locating pins is advisable,,, so they don’t spin when trying to refit your wheels… barrel of laughs that is, lol.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
Anyone had any previous experience with GiroDisc brakes before?
Weathers getting better and thinking to swap out my expensive (to me) PCCBs to GiroDisc replacements for track days. Don't have the sort of cash laying around to splash out 15k on a set of surface transforms (even if I did, not sure I'd want to stomach it!), and will swap back to PCCBs when my track days are done circa October time. (I have bought another car to use for winter track days, although I am currently daily-ing it! It also didn't cost much more than a set of surface transforms discs!)
I'm not looking for positives/negatives against PCCBs as I'm aware its been done to death, I've sat here and read all the posts while lurking! Mainly looking to see if anyone has had an user experiences on either 981 or 718 GT4

These are listed as 981 GT4 but say they can also be used with 718 GT4 also.
Appreciate that OEM PCCBs can probably take a lot more wear than I can put through them, but would rather get a new set of steel discs + pads each year and keep the PCCBs "fresh as possible". All being well, I am planning on keeping the car long term.
I want to start using the car on track a lot more than I originally intended, hence the change. That first track day was expensive as I now have "the bug!"
Staring to think that I should've just ordered my car with steels which would've also saved on initial outlay, but you live and learn lol.
Please don't start a war in the replies!
Yep short answer is Girodisc package works very well and is very popular for GT4.
Same package works on 981 and 718. Buy with confidence.
Pagid RS29 pad is very good for steel also.
Would be my recommendation.
Do uprated fluid and braided lines also. Not much outlay for those to make whole system fully track ready especially for hot days to come.

PFC also worth a look as they're a bit cheaper, but supply can be a bit erratic.
I prefer PFC technically… but the supply issues make me now rate Girodisc higher. The best ability, is availability.
Also might be worth checking directly with Girodisc or if you have a friendly local Indy as they now have a version with black hats and curved curves for Porsche and BMW … so look very similar to PFC. Some of the Indy’s have direct relationship with Girdodisc so might be able to get even better price.

How are these from a self fit perspective? My local Indy has a relationship with PFC and can’t/won’t source. So thinking about a bit of DIY.
Assume it’s just the caliper/hub hardline that a bit of faf.

Primarily yep.
Two bolt for the callipers, Push the pads back and slide off.
Use some zip ties and/or bungee straps to keep the calliper suspended close.. so you don’t have to disconnect the lines.
OEM rotors are located with 2 screws… which you’ll usually refit with your new rotors.

You could contact PFC direct, they were quick to reply to me with stock levels last year, although that was when they had a UK office. European supply is all done out of Spain now I believe.

Sounds straightforwardish. If I was to replace the calliper bolts with studs, are pad / disc changes doable without disconnecting the lines? The lines are all OE currently.
I see Girodisc and PFC have calliper stud kits available.
Unfortunately, you have to take the calliper off to change the pads since 991/981….
Can’t just slide them in and out via the back, like for prior gen or even other OEM brand or aftermarket callipers, which used to have only flip out/ push out retaining clip or pin.
Not sure if you have enough slack with the hard lines to get over studs if you were to fit them. Plenty of people convert to stud though, so must be ok. I just don’t have personal experience to say yay or nay.

I should have been clearer in hindsight my Indy has a relationship with PFC and can supply/fit PFC but won’t supply or fit Girodisc. So going Girodisc would be a DIY job for me. When I emailed PFC last month they said no issues with supply and my Indy says the same. However PFC have said I have to use their pads and Pagid / Endless pads will clash, which is annoying. Also the intermittent supply reported elsewhere does concern me a little.

Yup I’d figured out that a pad change is a calliper off job, hence thinking about studs rather than refitting the bolts each time.
The steel bolt into a aluminium calliper with the threads having been factory machined directly into the aluminium leaves me a little cold in terms of longevity. The bolt being harder will even if perfectly aligned slightly recut the threads each time… of course get it wrong and that’s a new calliper or a specialist to reline the thread.
The American’s on rennlist seem swear by calliper studs, but not seen or heard any UK users. So kind of wondered if it was just a US thing.
What I’d hope to avoid is a simple pad change becoming a full bleed the system down job, if I had to break the seal on any of the lines.
I have run them on a track dedicated 996 for several years. - Performance, and life, is good provided you run a decent pad, RSL29 is my prefered but there are other good options available.
Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated!
Will look into PFC as well as an option, GiroDisc seemed to come up as the more popular option so thought I would get more luck on an answer with them.
As a side note, I emailed my OPC this morning, asking if I was to swap to Manthey braided hoses and upgraded pads, if it would invalidate my warranty. I asked this as Manthey products are available direct through Porsche on GT3, but not GT4
I got the following response:
"In my experience and knowledge of Porsche. If a product is not available through Porsche themselves and only through Manthey or any other kind of non -Porsche approved product then I believe it will invalidate the warranty. As the GT3 kits are coming available with Porsche these situate within the warranty guidelines. There may at some stage be GT4 Manthey products available in the future.
I hope this helps answering your question."
Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware that what I was asking above with the GiroDisc rotors will invalidate warranty, but thought it would be interesting to ask anyways!

Nice to see it confirmed that GT4 MR will become finally FULLY Porsche factory warrantied.
I've been talking to a couple of the UK partners and they had suggested that soon after the 4RS MR kit is launched to Tequipment, the GT4 will also get full approval in short order. Happy days.
Been using these on the 997 for a while - been fine but tbh I think any of the 'noted' non OEM suppliers of slotted rotors are much of a muchness. Would be fine to have gotten Alcon/PFC/AP as well. Wanted to put on ma45 endless pads but couldn't source them before a trackday so went for the default rsl29 (or rs29, can never tell if there is a difference) pagids.....
